Some of the loudest voices that speak out against war are those that have been on the front lines and see there is no glory, little honour except for those experiances that ensure your buddies come home with you and seldom is a an award for valour awarded to those that come back. Most of those awards for bravery, and valour are awarded posthumusly for a reason. I thank God each day for our past and present serving members of our armed forces and the freedom they afford us but my greatest wish would be that their sacrifices were not necessary. Good for Kris for having the courage to say what he did.

+1 to number6's +1. i honor Kris' service to our country but I'll never respect the man or what he stands for. My father was a US Marine in Vietnam and used to scream at the TV when this man would open his mouth. He and John Kerry are of the same ilk. Amazing to me that he'd be given this honor considering how he's trashed America over the years.
Kris seemed as suprised as anyone that he got this award. I'm not old enough to remember Kris and his comments regarding America. I do know that their are many Vets that are more anti government and anti war than those who haven't served. You can only be used as a pawn so many times without becoming bitter. @zonomo what's your Dad's take on Vietnam now that he is older?
Zon my stand up comment was for his service, his and Kerry's views NO, when Kerry went to Vietnam his carry-on was a camera, mine was a shotgun, I feel the same way you do, and to the other members comment about Vietnam, what a waste of young lives IMHO. The old cajun
My dad's service there affected him the rest of his life. He passed away in July 10'. My dad hates war, as do I, but when he was called to go, he did so with a willing heart. He was proud of his service, proud of his brothers and proud of his country. He didnt necessarily agree with the people in DC but that was not part of the equation for him. I was given his Vietnam Service Medal at his memorial. Kinda tearing up right now just thinking about it.

Its not hard to be anti war. Its a horrible affair. To understand that it is sometimes a necessary evil is a little tougher. I dont think the world would be a better place had Nazi Germany not been opposed.
Anyone who advocates war with out real cause may well be totally ignorant of its consequences or evil at heart.
I always support our soldiers even if I disagree with the reason they are sent. I never disrespect the soldier but honor them as the national treasures they are.

The video was a bit of a surprise for me. "My jump wings and Ranger tab...." WTH? I knew Kris flew helos and was a Rhodes Scholar, but jumping out of perfectly good airplanes and being a snake eater?
Zon, I'm no Kristofferson fan and I've had my share of high blood pressure with his rants and tirades against our country: mentioning Colin Powell and Wesley Clark during his thank you speech certainly raised my hackles just a hair. But let's just call this one a skirmish and move on, okay?
