I've been thinking of doing this when I get to the end of a tin/jar/pouch and there's not enough left for a proper smoke.

It's a take on a "living cask" which is an old tradition of pouring the last of whisky bottles into a wood cask and sampling from time to time. Legend has it that people have enjoyed some fantastic drams doing this so why not try it with tobacco?

Actually what came to mind when thinking of this is sour dough starter which can go back many years if not decades...

I keep a couple little jars of extras. Extras are only for last bits of a near empty tin if it's not enough for a bowl. I try to keep only 4-5 tins or jars open at one time and I don't do Aromatics. One jar is for English / Balkan "style" blends the other is for VA / Va/Per "style" or non-English non-Aromatics blends. It just seems wrong to get English's in my VA Va/Per's. Doesn't seem to mix as well as chocolate and peanut butter.
