Hello
I am a fellow tobacco chewer so new to this arena sorry to say .. I do find myself buying and selling tobacco memorabilia ... I just came across a pipe I need your help on...
From doing my homework it is signed Ismet BECKLER...I don't know if they make fakes of the pipes... its well broken in from the color ...not a heavy pipe.... Looks like Sherlock Homes to me.....
Any help ...age...value.... or just another plane jane pipe any way I can get a picture on here
Edit: Corrected capitalization in title per Rule #9, L.

So is this a pipe you are wanting to smoke or just here to get a price so that you can maximize your profits? If you are not interested in pipe smoking, I suggest that you take it up. I have went from chewing a can of Grizzly a day to mostly smoking a pipe. I have not bought any chewing tobacco in over two months.

It would help us if you could post pictures. If you're just trying to get a price estimate, I'd suggest following some bids in EBay to see what they go for. Also try Pipedia on the name. Welcome to the forums.

Is it just me, or is anyone else here irked when somebody joins PM Forums, especially someone who admittedly doesn't smoke pipes, just to get a value on a pipe in order to sell it?
I have no problem with that, as long as they give me 10% concession for my valuable input

Wasn't there a similar problem a month ago like this?

It involved an Etsy dealer that made arrangements with a member if ours and then reneged on the deal after asking about the worth of a pipe here on the forums?

I think that this issue happens quite a bit...

Forgive me if I sound contentious, its not my intention. There are numerous rules and guidelines that govern this forum and not one of them makes any attempts to exclude non-pipe smokers from acquiring information in an attempt to more accurately price a pipe or pipe related memorabilia one intends to sell (unless this person is attempting to make a sale through pipesmagazine.com). Those who have seniority and an established, well-respected reputation on this site should be the first to provide assistance to any new member, and or guest seeking information on pipes and pipe tobacco. Or, at the very least, be one of the last to make a guest feel unwelcome- for any reason that doesn't violate the rules and regulations of our forum. Those of you who felt the need to let our guest know of the strife he brought upon upi by not being a pipe smoker should have made a more valiant effort in attempting to persuade parlamnt to try his pipe before he sells it.

I have to agree with you. We don't really know this fellow's intention, and he hasn't offered this pipe for sale on the forum.
Maybe we should give him the benefit of the doubt?

The problem here is that if you do a simple Google search, you find a lot of information on Ismet Beckler Pipes (previous Ebay auctions, article etc). So either the OP didn't do his due diligence and is asking for free, market price information from members, or doesn't know how to do a search for him/herself. Either way, it does not help that the very first post informs an entire forum of pipe smokers that they do not smoke pipes nor do they intend to 'convert'. This lack of interest in taking up the hobby/lifestyle merely lends more credence to the fact that they are looking for pricing information (as mentioned in the second line of the OP post... "I do find myself buying and selling tobacco memorabilia".

Benefit of the doubt? Okay, but I would like to see a 'different first post'. Think of your first post on this forum...

Now, if the OP were frank about the actual intent, then it's the forum members choice to freely give advice.

Just my opinion.
