Just cut it. For fuck's sake, it's just hair. If cutting it potentially gets you closer to what you want then cut it. I dunno, I don't tie up my feelings of individuality and personal freedom in my appearance. I suppose that is why I never pierced myself or got tattoos. Always felt silly to me to spend money on something that separates me from others and draws attention to me.

Consider that if the person interviewing you is an acquaintance and knew you with long hair and you show up with a clean trim, they may think that you are all business and committed. With the way the job market is these days any kind of extra commitment may help in your favor.

I don't have as much experience as bigvan, but he's exactly right. I guess you have to weigh what's important to you and how much you need this particular job.
Also, I would wear a suit or a jacket along with the shirt and tie (if you have one on hand), especially if you choose to keep the hair.
In any case, good luck!

I used to have hair down to the middle of my back and play in a punk rock band. I wish I had a picture of the before, but here is the now.

People I don't know treat me with a ton more respect. If cutting your hair is the make or break attribute, I say cut it. Great thing about hair is it grows back!!!!

As long as the earrings aren't guaged or as many as Mr. T I wouldn't think they'd be a big deal. I've seen a lot of men in the buisness world with pierced ears. I will say more often they have modestly sized cubic zurconium studs instead of loops.
As far as the hair goes, I say give Baron's advice a go.
It is a difficult line to keep what makes you you and still please the bosses in a slack, and tie working world. Best of luck with the job interview.

I used to have hair down to my belt line. I loved it, chicks digged it, but I had to grow up and get a real job, as they say. No regrets now as I couldn't even imagine having long hair now.
I think the sound advice though is to lose the earrings, tie the hair back neatly and agree to cut it if necessary for the job.

You just never know. The safe bet is to "fall in line" and go GQ for the job. Seems to be the best course of action with most any job or date, etc. But times are changing all over. I work in the electronics industry and used to get called out to visit customers job sites throughout the day. One day I go to an advertising firm and although outside the building looked real high end I was shocked when I got inside and met the receptionist who was dressed like whore. She had thigh high boots and tattoos with a school girl mini-skirt. This blew my mind and then some guy rolled up on a skateboard and took me to the area I had to conduct repairs in and he had hair down to his asz. When I was all done I met the manager of the office who was wearing a suit and had more jewelry than the lady that greeted me!!! This was the exception but they all seemed happy there and of course I would imagine they didn't seal often with the public. But to em common sense says that when times are tough the tough get going so looks mean nothing when a job is at stake!

I think I am going to donate my hair to Locks Of Love. They take the hair make hair pieces for kids with medical issues that cause them to loose their hair from the issue or treatment.

I've never had hair longer than to the middle of my neck. Every job interview i go to I get a trim, especially now with the unemployment high, there are more people trying to get that same job.
Cut it off and donate it to the Locks Of Love, you can always grow it back once you get the job.
I've worked in the real estate business for about 8 years (at a title company) and no one had long hair or earrings and that sort of stuff.
