This is the last picture I have of it. I thought it might be a bagpipe stem too but it is way to long for that. If you put the stem in your mouth the bottom of it almost touches the floor. I think I was wrong on the length. it is about four feet or more.

First thing I thought was the stem from a set of bag pipes...
There's no markings on it? Where's the bowl at??

That is the stem from a German Regimental pipe. It is a "Tyrolean" style pipe and would have had a base and large ceramic bowl thats just as highly decorated. They were given to retiring military to commemorate service. The dates of 1897 and 1900 would be about right. The horse probably represents a cavalry unit. I'm sure every symbol on there has a meaning.

In complete form, they are quite valuable. The stem alone is useful to someone with extra parts to build a pipe. I really dont know what someone like that would pay. I would guess at a bare minimum $30. Could be on the right day an auction would go $200 just for the stem. Dont really know. Then again, how many German Regimental Tyrolean Pipe collectors are out there :)

You hit the nail on the head with that. I put German regimental pipe in my search and the second picture in images had almost the identical pipe. Thanks so much. You have no idea how long I searched for this.

So now I guess I'm searching for the correct base and bowl. Anyone that comes across a cavalry or Dragoon bowl and the correct type base give me a shout out. And thanks again. Dean Williams Mountain View Ar.

Awesome man ! Glad I could help.

You will see the bowls on Ebay if you watch, but the problem is few people know what they are selling. You are not likely to find one by searching "German regimental pipe", and if you do it will be quite expensive because they know what they are selling.

Your best bet is to go to the category of pipes and do a search for "ceramic, clay, porcelain" and then wade through the hundreds of listings that pop up. It will be a lot of work but you will find your bowl eventually.
And photoman, you wouldnt believe all the obscure bits of info that float around the back of my mind
