It can be difficult living in a world that values profits more than people.
You are a part of our family, Eric, and so your girlfriend is, too.
What is your girlfriend's name? Knowing will make it easier when saying my prayers.
Best to you both.

Thanks a million Philip. Rachel is her name. She read your post and says thank you so very much. And thanks again to everyone else for the good mojo. Reading these posts made her day a little brighter and she really appreciates it.

Prayers and best wishes for you both. I know what it is to fear for the one you love so you have my sympathy. You are both stronger for having each other.

How is she doing now?
She now has an appointment to get blood work done on the 17th, and they are still working on getting her to the specialist. She's still in quite a bit of pain and is pretty tired most of the time, but she tries to maintain a positive attitude. I am currently asking around about a lawyer and will look into the matter a little more over the next couple of days. Thanks again guys. She has read through almost all the replies and said that you guys really made her day.

I seriously wish you both the best. I hope you can get some legal advice the denial of benefits just seems very wrong to me.

The fact that she got denied for disability that she has been paying money into and the fact that they told her she couldn't claim it because she was disabled and had to take off really pissed the both of us off. When the pain first started, she thought she might have aggravated something at work, and one day it got so bad that she had to go to the ER. For a while, we were trying to figure out if her pain and the treatment of it could be picked up by workman's comp. Don't even get me started on those a-holes. They treated her like a common criminal, and once they got the results of the second MRI that showed she had a cyst on her sciatic nerve, workmans comp said they wouldn't even pay for her to go the ER even though work told her she had to. The whole experience with insurance companies, workman's comp, and the state in general has left a really bad taste in my mouth, and it definitely has her riled up as well.

Where in IL are you? I grew up in Belleville, went to college in Decatur. My dad is a retired 35+ year veteran in the IL Dept of Welfare. I'm going to pass your story along to him. There has to be something you guys can do to get some help. Failing that, I'm thinking I should know someone who can point you in the direction of an appropriate lawyer. Sorry to be such a butinski, but this is bullshit. The company she works for should not be able to get away with this. Neither should the state. I sympathize with you...IL is definitely a who you know rather than what you know place.

I had sciatica in my thigh muscle for over a year. The whole surface of my thigh muscle would go mostly numb and sting like hell when I stood on my feet in one place for more than a couple of hours.
You need good mojo? I hear there's a pill for that.
I hope that she gets to healing up real soon, Pipe Novelist.

I wish the best of luch to you and Rachel. If you get an attorney, you need one who specialized in Social Security and Disability claims. Her work is simply stalling. I've seen it before. Usually a call from an attorney can get them unstuck. Also SSI/Disability claims with the government will often be denied the first time, so keep trying.

I hate to hear when bad things happen to good people. I pray that things start going her way soon. We will light a candle for you.

Stay vigilant with positive thinking.

Best wishes for you both. I would contact an attorney who specializes in labor law. As Baron said they are stalling and if you don't fight fire with fire, they will string you along forever. If she paid into a disability policy and cannot work then they need to pay, it is that simple. An attorney will protect your rights and get every dime retroactive to the beginning. I have dealt with insurance companies of all kinds for 30 years and in all that time,I needed an attorney to hold their feet to the fire. They never deal in good faith and if you live in a state where triple and punitive damages can be applied, they will fold much quicker. You can also make a claim for attorney's fees because they are not dealing in good faith. The last time I went after an insurance company they had to pay over 75,000.00 in attorney's fees.

Pipe Novelist and Rachael my heart goes out to both of you for what you are going through. My best to both of you and you will most certainly be in our prayers tonight and moving forward. You for strength to be there for your lovely wife and her for fast healing and and end to the stress money worries always cause. On a practical note having lived through my Mother going through disablity approval I can tell you first hand the employer will deny, deny, deny until backed into a corner. SSI will not approve the first application, by unwritten policy it's almost that way so they seperate those who are willing to fight and those who are not. Not fair I agree but its their system. What you need is a doctor with a God complex. I kid you not. Doctors like that take things like this very personally when their clients are not approved. Trust me when my Moms doctor called to get her an MRI and was told three months wait he raised holy hell and somehow they found a slot for her two days later. On the topic of an attorney. Some laywers will take a case like this if they feel there is grounds for a wrongfull dismissal law suit or if they think they can sue SSI. In most cases they will take the case pro bono and require a percentage of a settlement from the employer. This is typically a lump sum amount and does NOT mean she can't still persue LTD. Contact the BAR association in your district. They can give you a list of lawyers that will represent you in a case like this and save you hourse of tire kicking. Best of luck to both of you and if there is anything I can do to help please fee free to ask. As Photoman said sometimes what you need most is an ear. We don't know one another but I would happily share my home number with you and I can pass along my experiances fighting the same type of fight less than a decade ago. I am much better educated now. God Bless!
