Hello everyone, I am a truck driver and I stay on the road 1-2 months at a time. I've bought a couple of pipes that are waiting for me when I get home and I'm now purchasing several types of tobacco to take back out on the road with me to figure out which ones I like. I'm going to take just a few off of this list (with your help). I can always try them later but the majority of them I will take with me and have about 8-10 on the road. What do you think? Here is the list I currently have:

* Escudo Navy De Luxe
* Cornell & Diehl Sansepolcro
* Mac Baren HH Old Dark Fired
* Sutliff Vanilla Custard
* G. L. Pease Quiet Nights
* Peterson Nightcap
* Peterson My Mixture 965
* Peterson Early Morning Pipe
* Orlik Golden Sliced
* Lane Limited 1-Q
* Capstan Flake Blue
* Captain Black Original

I’d get one of each genre, to get a baseline of where your interest may lie….a bright Virginia, a red Virginia, a navy flake, a VaPer, a burley, an English, a dark fired, a standard aromatic, and a fruity aromatic, etc.

Have a few smokes of one before switching.

Skip the Sutliff, otherwise (if your luck is like mine) it’ll probably be your favorite and once what’s on the shelves is gone you’ll never get it again.

Good luck, from the thought put in your list it looks like you’re headed straight down the rabbit hole!

Well, I think you're having the opposite effect of what I wanted 😁 I added Cornell & Diehl: Haunted Bookshop for a Burley. Everything seems to be a blend of one thing or another. I think I've got those bases coverage you mentioned, I'm not sure.

I didn't list them but I do plan on bringing several Cherry blends with me to decide which one I like.

I’d recommend Pegasus or OJK, or one of the Burley Flakes-HBS has perique which may (or may not) put a thumb on the scale.
But I’m not an “American” burley fan.

Is nic content part of what you’re looking for? That would influence what may float your boat as well.

I looked up what you had mentioned above. I don't see OJK or HBS. This is what I've found so far. Are these what you're talking about?

Mac Baren: HH Burley Flake
Cornell & Diehl: Pegasus (says it's American)

I don't know what's gonna float my boat. That's why I'm trying to get a big sample group.

I’d not put any of the Latakia bearing blends*** in as something to try Virginias, Burleys, etc.

Are you saying wait to try these *** ?
I just wouldn’t judge Virginias, DFK, VaPer, etc by what I thought of any blend that has Latakia in with the other varietals.
Take EMP for instance, one can’t smoke some EMP, not like it, then think they don’t like bright/red Virginias.
I smoke a lot of VaPer blends, but Nightcap is a strong spicy English way more than it’s a representation of what VaPer is, etc…

I would get quiet nights
You should try a great lat blend

Id kick orlik, its not indicative of a real vaper. It barely has perique
Id wait on old dark fired
Drop captain black. Its goopy stuff

I would not buy stuliff. Its discontinued so if you like it you cant replace it. Concentrate on stuff in production

I swapped the Orlik for Quiet Nights. I do want to compare the Captain Black Original and Lane Limited 1-Q.

Just...too...difficult...can't do...it. ugh just can't cut the list. Probably why I have about 75 maybe a hundred different blends in my cache. I am a tobacco collector.

I thought Sut Van Cust is going to stick around. Maybe I'm wrong.

If you want vanilla I would try these blends if they haven't already been mentioned. Peretti Black Virginia, Mac Vanilla Cream - which I've heard will stick around, CD Granby Station, or PS 31 Optimum. They are all not as a candy sweet but I think after you've smoked a lot of different blends for a while you'll appreciate and enjoy that aspect.

You don’t have any English blends in your most recent cut list. Nightcap, EMP, Quiet Nights are all excellent English options, characterized by the inclusion of Latakia.

They make up the main portion of what I smoke, so I’m notably biased, but not having an English blend in your mix while at the same time having *both* 1Q and Captain Black seems quite deficient to me.

Good luck finding any Mac Baren HH Old Dark Fired. If you have a source - grab it. It's good smoke. One of my favorites.

Sansepolcro has "Italian" dark fired, which for me doesn't quite taste like "American" dark fired. I do enjoy it. My usual DFK fix is GLP Cumberland and Jack Knife Plug ready rubbed.

Quiet Nights is more for latakia than red virgina. Great smoke, but being an English-style blend, it has the latakia. If you are looking for a blend where red Virginia is the central player, you might consider looking for something else.
