I am new to the forum and to pipe smoking and my love of restoring things has already got me adventuring into older pipes.
This is my first attempt at restoring a pipe so it is far from perfect but I really like this little pipe. When I received it, most of the grain pattern was hidden under a layer of dark buildup and the stem was oxidized a bit.
Usually I am decent about sleuthing things out online but I'm stumped. The only marking on the say "Natural S". The band is sterling with "Premier" in a diamond. I have been pouring over pages of sterling hallmarks and haven't found a match I'm confident with. The build of this pipe led me to find diagrams on Peterson pipes because of the stepped down tenon and moisture trap. Being new to pipes, it was a construction I hadn't expected and had to do some research on.
It is a perfectly comfortable shape and size for me, so that much is good to know, stepping into something new is always an adventure and I see there is a lot to learn. Is this something modeled on Peterson pipes? Does anyone have any thoughts on the sterling hallmarks and age? I'm somewhat familiar with searching sterling marks but this one is eluding me.

Any thoughts on this would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Birmingham, 1943 for the hallmarks. No reason to think they are fake. Anchor, T with a foot, and Lion.

Thanks for the replies!
Having "Reiss" to add to Premier put me right on the trail. Pipedia.org has an article on Reiss-Premier with a couple of photos of sterling bands like the one on my pipe.

Part of the enjoyment of something like this is discovering the history. I'll probably be using lots of valuable work time today picking up the trail and researching.

I had been thinking the same thing but I couldn't tell if the anchor had other details in it or it was just the way the mark had worn. The outlines of the marks were also a little different from what I was digging up. At least with the photos from pipedia.org I'm feeling confident the sterling band is legit and original. Fake marks had crossed my mind, but I'm thinking not in this case. There is no crack in the shank so the band wouldn't have been from a repair either. So, learning that it is an American brand pipe, I wonder if the similarity to the Birmingham marks are coincidental or if it was possibly an import for the company. Unfortunately, I'm finding American sterling hallmarks don't seem to as well regulated as the British hallmarks.
The adventure continues!

The hallmarking just means the band was assayed in Birmingham, it could have been put on the pipe anywhere. The manufacturer would have simply bought 1000 silver bands of a size/shape.

Good point, I appreciate your thoughts on this. I was at a point where I was getting stumped and knew it was time to get some other perspectives.
