If buying a Peterson, just be sure you know which bit you want and buy that. Many Petes are standard fishtail bits, but they do many pipes in various series with P-Lip bits, which direct the smoke toward the roof the the mouth. It's a slightly bigger bit, feels different, and is more behind your teeth than the fishtail. I have one P-Lip, a Killarney 999, with a P-Lip bit, and it is a good pipe, but I haven't bought another, prefer the standard fishtail.

I'm used to P-lip pipes.

I have 3 Petersons,couple of Vauens and 1 Savinelli with P-lips. I like them.

Currently I educating myself about Castello pipes, seems to be quite a spread in prices.

Peterson QC does worry me a bit. Seems lately more complaints about it.

As stated above, new Peterson pipes have some QC issues. Although Castello seems to be highly respected, I will simply say that I have wanted one for some time. Each Castello that I have fallen in love with has been drilled high, and I have passed. I like to see pipes in person before deciding when possible.

I personally would take a Castello every time over a similar priced Peterson. Part of my problem besides the price of Castello's is that I prefer lighter pipes and they tend to be large.
