I read an interesting essay the other night exploring metaphysics. Basically, it gave the two motives: reality versus fiction in the sense of what is relative and what isn't. The essay pointed out that all is relative to how we concieve it. Reality is all relative. that could be an interesting paper with plenty of classical philosohical works to cite throughout. Hope this helps and goodluck!!

I always liked Platos Parables; The Ship of State, Parable of the Cave. Dont know if I could write a paper on either one, but theres sure enough material there, especially with reference to Ship of State/Modern Politics.

Another large area of philosophy to explore would be the classic morality versus religion. Nietzsche would be a highly reputable source on this one!

@coalsmoke, that sounds like a great idea, I can get behind that. I think I am going to do platros influence on aristotle, just like your example is, those were actually the two philosophers that interested me the most so it worked out! thanks!

How about one on logical fallacies- Circular Reasoning, Straw Man, etc. People in school really need to learn these and it seems no one is out there teaching it.

What came first the Chicken or the Egg? That's my topic for you. I'd be interested in your conclusion. :D

They actually just determined that the chicken had to have some first due to the egg not being able to develop without the chicken. I just read that in an online article. :puffy:

You need to do the paper to pass the class. Your prof wants to know that you are awake in class and are sorta thinking about the topic. Find a comment he made in class about the topic, and expand on it. Either agree, or disagree, or look at it from a different perspective. Or take the idea and apply it to something happening in your life.
I am not answering your question. I am telling you how to pass this course and others like it.

Winton's idea is excellent, most of the time. My history prof changed my term paper grade from his Grader's A to a B because I disagreed with something he liked to spew. I found out because a friend was a friend with the grader. So, if your prof is an ego-maniacal megalomaniac, be cautious with disagreeing. I had to file a complaint based on shcolastic vindictiveness.

There were eggs long before chickens. Genetic mutations of prior species eventually resulted in chickens, but those species were born from eggs long before the species we call chickens finally came to be. So yeah, the egg most definitely came before the chicken. Maybe I'm just being a tight-arse and you actually mean if the first species born from eggs came before the egg it was born in, in which case yes, you're most likely right in that it did.
This is only true if you believe in science and evolution, of course. If you don't you're on your own.

How can the egg come first? Something had to lay it, it just didn't pop out of thin air. :?:
