I have a friend who wants to get me a pipe. I saw this vintage Comoy rustic billiard last night. I'm going to say that it's between 1938-mid forties based on this article: http://www.glpease.com/Pipes/Comoy.html (9th paragraph down)

My other option is a Stanwell Golden Danish. I am heavily leaning towards the Comoy because I feel like it has more value based on its creation period and the fact that I could say I have a third period Comoy in my collection. Any advice?

I love Comoys; but they can be tricky to date. The reissued older period stamping on the Cadogan era pipes. I just bought one on Ebay that I think has the three drilled C logo. If the pipe you are considering does have the three piece logo, you can be sure it will be a fine smoker. Definitely post some pix, I'm hoping it is a '38 era pipe, that would be a real find!

I am hesitant on posting pics because of fear that someone else will go after the pipe. But I can say this: it is almost certain that the pipe is between 1920-1945 (pre WW2).

I have several Comoys and several of their seconds - a Sunrise stack being the best burner by far - but I can't speak to the Stanwells.
However, I love the Danes. I love the killer, wild ass looking pipes they designed and inspired. I love the history and I love the culture. But there's no way a Golden Danish will ever compete in resale value with a high end Comoy.
Cigrmastr, Rothnh and Al walk in truth and light. They won't steer you wrong, friend.

Go with the Comoy. One from that era should have great briar and be a great smoker. I have two Comoy's from the mid 1960's and a Comoy second. They are great smoking pipes and Comoy pipes have some of the most beautifuly proportioned shapes. The Stanwell is still being made, so you can get one anytime. A Comoy from that era is a find.
Welcome to the forum. Post some pictures when you get the pipe.
