Come this payday I'm ordering my first pipe and some tobaccos from one of the site's fine sponsors (heh heh). Going to get the Savinelli First Pipe kit, as well as some 1Q and Altadis Chocolate Mousse (just went with a random aromatic with decent reviews) but id like to get one or two more to start with. I'm a new smoker, so if you could recommend things on the mild side it would be appreciated heh. Also, I'm open to general advice if anyone feels so inclined. Thanks!

Welcome to the forum, and pipe smoking!
Peter Stokkebye's B&B is a fantastic aromatic.
Bald Headed Teacher is a nice aromatic/English blend.
There are two brand new pipe smokers at work, I bought one of them his first pipe as a matter of fact, and they both love those two tobaccos. I keep them in my locker with a jar of 1-Q.

Welcome to you Bobdobbs!

Sounds like you have a good plan for starting your new "obsession".

You might peruse Luxury Tobacco Reviews to gain a little insight.

That being said if you want to walk on the wild side, and believe you are ready for an advanced taste you might try PS Luxury Bulls Eye Flake or something definitely top shelf like Rattray's Hal O' The Wynd (which has been a hot topic of late).
Again welcome to the fraternity.

Hey bobdobbs,
I was in a similar situation a few months ago and have picked up the following since then:

- 1Q (this is what I started with, and I keep coming back)
Then I ordered the following (likely from the same source as you):

- Mac Baren 7 Seas Gold

- Dunhill Royal Yacht

- G.L. Pease Maltese Falcon
Then I picked up some bulk this weekend from a local tobacconist:

- McClelland 5100 Red Cake
This seems to be a good mix of blends for me of some aromatics, English, Viginia, etc. I'm really liking 'em all, and teaching me the differences, i.e. English vs. Aro vs. Virginia, etc.
Enjoy!
Sean

Irish creme (made by altadis and sold in bulk) is by -far- my favourite blend. Its mild and very tame like a burley with a slight sweetness not dissimilar to its namesake in it. And my god does it go good with an Irish Coffee heh heh.
Mild Burley (made by same folks) is the very definition of a tame and mild (and enjoyable) smoke.
Old Companion is very nice too, from pipesandcigars.com, that one is (in my mind) the cigarette of the pipe world it basically tastes like what I imagine Midnight Special would if they prepared the same blend they use for RYO cigs for pipes instead.

@Yoru - Royal Yacht stuck me the same way. When I take a good long smell of it in the jar it totally reminds me of RYO tobacco.
Can't say I love Royal Yacht, I probably smoke less of it than any of the others listed above; but I can tell you it sure hits the spot sometimes.

I think I may have to try Royal Yacht having heard you say that. It might be something worth playing with.
