Been on a small pipe shag kick lately but all my local B+M has is Drum tobacco, and while Drum is a nice treat from time to time I need some suggestions on some other good shag blends. Had a good shag lately? 😁

Apparently our minds work along the same lines.

You just got to this thread 15 minutes quicker than me.😆

However, in response to the OP’s query, I’ve been known to smoke Stokkebye Norwegian Shag in a small bowl briar from time to time. I’ve never been a cigarette smoker, but an old ex-girlfriend used to RYO with it, and I like the extra nuttiness in its flavor (the tobacco, not the ex-girlfriend).

Good suggestions above! I was going to chime in but the folks above mentioned everything I would recommend (maybe I’d add PS Amsterdam to the list).

Can’t go wrong with these!

If you like bright Virginia then Daughters & Ryan Three Sails is quite good. If you're looking for dark fired then their Ryback is nice as well, though it's not as smooth as Gawith Hoggarth Kendal Dark; but Ryback does pack less of a nicotine wallop. For something more in the middle that's not too bright nor too dark and smokey I'm a big fan of Gawith Hoggarth Kendal Mixed.

If you're more of a Burley person than a Virginia or dark fired smoker there is Five Brothers, which is quite tasty in that classic nutty and woody Burley way but requires the constitution of an Olympian to smoke more than a very small bowl of.

Buoy Gold

You are a brave man to mention Buoy Gold around here ha, ha. You run the risk of being called a slack jawed, mouth breathing, knuckle dragger, or worse. I ordered some recently and just had my first bowl this morning. It wasn’t bad and should improve with age. I’ll put some in jars and the remainder in Mylar and revisit in a few months.

I’ve really enjoyed Golden Harvest for RYO the last few years and just recently picked up a few pipes.

The golden harvest is best on the drier side for RYO and a little more moisture for the pipe.

I must say, it tastes much better in the pipe, very sweet. This old review seems to sum it up nicely 😊81B5451B-18B3-459A-B8A5-6A35084C5820.jpeg

Another vote for GH Dark Birds Eye, but be aware that the Vintage Cut is a ribbon. You want the regular, which they label as the Classic cut. Smokers Haven Exotique is also a shag, but very hard to get.
