Looks like they are the first major league in North America to do it. I know there was talk of playoff games in empty arenas but to suspend the whole season surprises me.

I don't watch basketball, but I'm wondering what implications this has for other leagues.

I'd pay extra to see games played in that gear, LOL! Reminds me of having to operate in full chemical gear (MOPP 4) in the blackboot army.

Okay suspension. I really should care as it is hitting my local. MGM casinos have temporarily closed their buffets. Other properties are having servers at the buffets instead of normal self-serve.

I'll be glad when this election situation is over.

We will have to wait and see what this means. If it is just a little break it isn't a problem but if it goes farther it could be a real big deal. I don't care about basketball but this could be a major tell on the other sports.

Since the vast majority of spectators watch games on TV, this could have relatively little effect on those sports that choose to play to empty stadiums. The psychology of playing without live spectators could have huge effects on some players who have trained from childhood to draw energy from crowds, but others will appreciate the quiet in which to focus their energies. Some of the introverts might find their zone as never before. Some extroverts may wither. I'd bet keeping people out of crowds will help ease the incidence of disease and keep the medical world from gridlock. A medical guy, in an interview, noted that taking action while it still seems silly is the key to getting ahead of the virus. Once people are actively afraid and responding out of fear, it is too late.

Doesn't surprise me at all given the fact that professional athletes spend far more time than the average person in extremely close contact with dozens of other individuals and their various bodily emissions. Then they do it all over again two nights later. And again two nights later. Over and over and over hundreds of times per season.

It seems the perfect way to exponentially increase transmission. And with cases already confirmed in some NBA athletes, it seems an appropriate precaution.

Sucks for us hockey fans, but it is what it is.

There has been some discussion over this. The teams in the Big 10 were already in their hotels. They do not have much face to face contact in between games. In fact, by cancelling the games they now will be in contact with many many MORE people than if they played and went to their rooms.

This isn't about player safety, it's trying to ensure that there is no huge spike in sick people. 20-30% of the people probably will get sick, but if it happens over a 2 week time span, we are screwed. We cannot treat 100 million people at the same time. If it happens over a 6 week time frame, it's no big deal. The best way is to eliminate big crowds.

We are going to look back and find that the PANIC is the problem, not the virus.
