@logandow: There is much very high strangeness related to the beginnings of the space program, even beyond "operation paperclip nazis". For example, there is the truly bizarre saga of the co-founder of JPL, Jack Parsons, and L. Ron Hubbard of Scientology fame, and their connection to the infamous Aleister Crowley:
Sex and Rockets

When JPL co-founder and occultist Jack Parsons wasn't busy building rockets, he was chatting up the "whore of Babylon."

I didn't watch the trailors, but I would bet they are based on novels by Harry Turtledove.
You might protest, "America's Moon," but I suspect that there are going to be some other nations up there before we return.

"I had no idea Nazi's were that intertwined with NASA, fascinating".
@logandow....When the Allied countries and Russia over ran Nazi Germany, the German V-2 rocket program along with Wernher von Braun were 'assimilated' by the United States. (Resistance was Futile!) von Braun was a German scientist, but was Not a member of the Nazi Party by choice. He went on to design the Saturn V Rocket which eventually carried the Apollo missions to the moon.
I like science fiction movies, and this looks like a good one. But the idea of Nazi's being in NASA is wrong!

Remember Indiana Jones? The Nazi's got their asses handed to them in those movies too!

lol- looks a bit like "Mars Attacks" to me,,,,and it is described as "sci-fi/comedy"
aside from all the evils perpetrated by the Third Reich, let's not forget how anti-smoking they were too!!!

I LOVE Harry Turtledove's books. I've only read 2 but oh MAN are they complicated lol
I don't know squat about WWII but his books but a sci fi twist on the war and it's completely awesome. :puffy:
No second rate film could ever do his books justice. He needs an "Avengers" or "Lord of the Rings" budget.

AMERICA'S MOON!

The UN Outer Space Treaty forbids any country from claiming ownership of the moon.

"outer space, including the Moon and other celestial bodies, is not subject to national appropriation by claim of sovereignty, by means of use or occupation, or by any other means"

I don't like the idea of people saying the moon belongs to the USA, jokingly or not, it's rude AND wrong, especially as a space enthusiast.

@topd: I respect your opinion, and I know what you said is the "official" history. But I will just have to respectfully disagree. IMO, there is much very credible information from numerous sources refuting it. I will only suggest that if logandow or anyone else is interested, do your own research, and seek sources that don't just tow the official, establishment line. Search information regarding "operation paperclip" and then make up your own mind.
Here are a few book suggestions related to the subject:

I think that people calling the moon theirs is of small import. What is important is the de-facto ownership. A space program is like a fully loaded 18-wheeler starting up a hill from a dead stop. It takes it a long time to get going, but it is touch to catch it once it is going.
Our program has had the brakes on since Nixon. Probably no single activity happening on this planet more improtant for the future of homo sapians than getting off of it, and the US is concerned with who Secret Service people are having sex with.
Perhaps our venture into private sector space ventures will pay off. We can hope.

I'm a little blown away, this film also is set to air this month in Germany!!! I wonder who's side wins! Would be really strange to watch a movie where the USA looses and mabey interesting as well. The USA is supposed to also release this movie later on, I wonder if it would if we did loose in this little made up war.

Stopping te spread of blatant misinformation is quite important. The US is not the owner of the moon, de facto or otherwise. The moon is however common heritage of mankind, making it mine.
