Nat Sherman Pipe Tobaccos

Can anyone elaborate on the blending and supplying/manufacturing for Nat Sherman tinned tobaccos? I enjoyed the ones that I smoked even the apple(at the time I was complaining and threw it out as I wasn't into aromatics BUT WOW the quality was spectacular)
I'm looking for something similar to that stuff - was considering something like Peretti or Wilke but was looking for more information regarding who, how, and what was a Nat Sherman Pipe blend.

W-a-a-a-y too many unknowns and variables in attempting to source pipe tobaccos sold under a house name decades ago. Could have been anyone at one time, and someone else at another. Let's say it's Dunhill. What would that mean in today's context? And the actual blender could be dead or in a mental institution. I'd say, as a practical matter, that Tobacco Reviews is your friend.

I really liked Nat Sherman 536, a mild and exceedingly refined English blend with burley as a condiment. I bought it bulk right there in the store on my one visit before the store closed. I've smoked quite a few other English blends before and since, but nothing quite that nuanced. It was pretty mild, but the burley gave it a slight edge in a good way. I like a range of the C&D English blends, for example, and other brands, but I haven't encountered anything similar.

536 was amazing - it was also used in the cigarettes which is how I first tried it - nice mild but flavorful latakia - you are lucky

Before the pandemic I was a daily commuter to Manhattan from Connecticut through Grand Central and was a regular at the Nat Sherman 42nd street shop as well as the Barclay Rex location down the block. I got to be very friendly with the manager of the pipe department and he confided to me that the Nat Sherman bulk pipe tobaccos were rebranded Lane Ltd, Peter Stockebye, and until their demise Mclelland tobaccos. 536 is Lane HGL and is available from SP.com for a fraction of what it cost at Nat Sherman. I used to buy a 2 ounce bag from them for $10.50 in exchange for the privelege of sitting in their smoking lounge surrounded by a horde of cigar smokers. I never ever saw another pipe smoker in the lounge in all m years of smoking there

Hmmm. I'll have to try Lane HGL in a small quantity and see if it is Nat Sherman 536. If so, this is very good news indeed. I can tell something just by looking at the specs for HGL.

I was a 47th-48th street guy too for many years. First in 580 5th Ave and then in 589 5th ave. I closed my business at the end of 2014. The Jewelry industry was neither fun nor profitable any more

jaygreen, I looked up the profile on HGL and it seems entirely possible that that is the same blend as 536. I bought mine in bulk at the Nat Sherman store on 42nd St. and my salesperson was Cliff Gold, CRT, a knowledgeable professional. Did you ever meet him? I think I have one more unopened tin of 536, but I will definitely try HGL when I run out, or before, to compare. Mr. Gold's title on his card was Lead Sales Associate. sable' has warned us about looking down on some of the moderately priced bulk blends from Lane and Sutliff on the basis that they are often resold as premium brands, which it seems some of them are. I am a "dangerously" informed pipe smoker, thanks to Forums. Thanks for the tip.

I find that suspect but also not suspect at the same time, but I wait for your take on the HGL and if you say it's even slightly possible then I'll have to get a lb of the stuff.
