your brief description reminds me of the time I got a tin of Pioneer Square. Which was a vanilla golden cavendish made for them by Lane Limited. It was a surprisingly good blend. Still had some tobacco in the profile but the vanilla was very rich and complex. If you've compared artificial vanilla to real vanilla in a recipe then you can understand how rich and complex just straight vanilla flavoring really can be. I'd love to find out this one is still made. Oh the other flavor additive I could pick up on was alcohol, not rum or whiskey but alcohol. Which makes me wonder if the aromatic quality would be more accurately described as genuine vanilla extract.
