I bought a beautiful Sav 316 Tundra EX that is huge. I love the look.

I have not smoked it yet but have tested the draw and it is really narrow and restricted. The hole or channel in the stem is really small, smaller than I am use to.

All of my other pipes, including several Savs, have easier flowing draws.

I have not smoked it yet but this restricted flow gives me pause.

Before I smoke it and make in nonreturnable, any experience with narrow drafts?

My concern is that if will throw of my usual cadence enough to cause bite and frustration.

I am a slow "sipper" usually.

Oh, well. I guess it will have to go back. It does seem top be smart to err on the side of caution.

It passes a cleaner, it is just very small. I have seen this same narrowness on other new Savinellis. I guess they are making some stems with a smaller draft.

One of my favorite pipes has a very narrow draw. It just means you need a little more pressure to smoke it. Which I guess means I don't really think for me it would be an issue. I find more problems with pipes that are more wide open.

I was wondering about this. Do you get bite more often with this pipe from having to draw more forcefully?

I’ve had shavings and/or that black goop that they apply restrict the draw. As mentioned, a pipe cleaner should clear any debris. If not, then return it.

In my case, tongue burn is directly proportional to the diameter of the hole. Most of the burn happens when lighting the pipe, the moment when you have to draw more strongly. Open draught, no filter... recipe for a sore tongue.

If you really don't want to return it Ive used a rod saw on some pipes to open the draw on bent stems. Takes a little patience but it'll get there.
