I'll jump in,

The first two because they are consistently excellent smokers.

1.Sasieni

2.Barling's

The next because he was the first pipemaker whose work I "collected"

3.Elliot Nachwalter, I have pipes from throughout his career.

4.W.O. Larsen, You have to know what you are looking at, the early shapes by Sven Knudsen and the pipes that show Former's influence. Also the pipes made by, or show the design influences of Tonni Nielsen and Teddy Knudsen.

5.Celius, In my opinion one of the most distinctive design aesthetics from that period of Danish pipe making.

6.Peter Brakner, if you have ever smoked a Brakner, you will know why.

7.Stanwell I really look for the early Ivarsson designed shapes.

8.Savinelli I don't think I've ever had a Savinelli that smoked badly.

9.E. Wilke You don't have to spend a fortune to find a great smoking estate pipe.
I'll stop here, but there really are a lot of great pipes to be found and enjoyed.

Brigham - IMHO on par with Savinelli in quality construction, hands down the best filter system

Trypis - designed Brighams for years, if you don't mind his signature rustication they are fine smokers

Savinelli

Stanwell

Can't wait to try a Castello, a Caminetto and a Mark Tinsky. Birthday coming up and I hope my wife gets the hint and checks out my "wish list."

Dunhill — I inherited two and have added four through careful estate shopping.

Barling's — Pre-transition pieces are worth the hunt.

All of my pipes have been new, so I don't have any experience with "estate pipes." That being said, my favorite pipes so far are:

Chacom

Savinelli

Caminetto

Sebastian Beo

Brigham

@warren -- "and no great loss if one breaks or falls into the river or septic system" -- LOL!
Funny story. My first full-time job after graduating from college many years ago was working for the Virginia Department of Health as an Environmental Health Specialist (in many states called a Sanitarian). My job included permitting and inspecting the installation of septic systems. On one rather nasty repair job, I had to go over to the septic tank and inspect a newly installed sanitary outlet tee in the tank. While walking over to the tank I placed my Costa del Mar sunglasses into my shirt pocket. While bending over to inspect the tee, the glasses fell out and went "ker plunk" inside the septic tank. The installer standing near me (I'm sure getting a little chuckle at my predicament) said he had a net inside of his truck and offered to try and "fish out" the sunglasses. I told him that if the "septic gods" wanted them that bad, they could keep them!

Short list for me. I have around 200, and probably 150 are Grabows.

I do have very long list of pipes I would love to own,and will buy when I win the Powerball!

In order:
Celius - specifically Chess and Fantasy series (Nothing comes close for beauty and smoking quality)

Zettervig

Holtorp

Erik Nielsen

Briar Spirit (English Artisan carver - I own one - a staggeringly sublime flake pipe - NOTHING comes close to it)

@Ed. Wow, 150 Dr. G's! That's gotta be some kind of record!

Myself, I have 2 Dr. Grabows, one (a Royalton) that smokes as well as any other pipe I own, the other ( a Belvedere w/stinger) does OK with Mac Baren flakes, but that's about it.
