Just noticed these on their website. They're made for mysmokingshop.co.uk by Ben Wade. No idea of Ben Wade's quality as I don't own any. Thought they looked nice and for a very reasonable price. £35 for the rusticated and £39 for the smooth. I particularly like the smooth version but every penny i've got is earmarked for tobacco. They come in 6 different shapes.

The new MySmokingShop Christmas Pipe range. This year, we thought we would launch a pipe to celebrate the festive season. Available in two finishes. Firstly, a smooth high polished red and also a craggy rusticated dark version. Both variants come with a bright red and double chrome mount complemented by a jet black vulcanite fishtail mouthpiece. These pipes originate from the Ben Wade of London pipe factory and represent excellent value for money.

Even though i'm spending all my money on tobacco i'd still find the £39 for one of those smooths if they were fitted to take a 9mm filter. Unfortunately, they're not.

I couldn't afford a Peterson or Sav Christmas pipe this year but these look to be a steal at under £40. I've never owned a Ben Wade either so it would've been nice to try one. I wish they'd offered them in a 9mm version. Shame.

Wow if you take the band off of the first one it would look almost 100 percent like my first briar. I wish I had kept that pipe.

No!
I will not even think about buying one of these. They are in the UK and I don't want the stress of waiting to see if it would actually be delivered to me in Louisiana.

Besides, in my weakened emotional state, I have already purchased two 2024 Christmas pipes to put under my tree.

According to Simon, the owner of MySmokingShopUK--who happens to also own the rights to Ben Wade--these pipes are made in the same factory that manufactures Peterson's low (standard) grades.

This is untrue, mistaken, or at least a very complete and intentional misreading of the facts.

All Petersons are manufactured by Peterson at the factory in the Deansgrange neighborhood in south Dublin. Peterson manufactures only Peterson branded pipes (and, obviously, Irish Seconds, about which we're quite open).

Like most large branded pipe factories during the past 100+ years, some of Petersons bowls are rough-turned by third parties (Edit: as in, the bowl isn't even ready to be properly sanded yet: these are not pipes; this is a stage between a block of briar and a finished head, ready to be turned into a pipe) for a handful of reasons (though, for us, mostly just for capacity reasons at present). Peterson has quality standards for what it will buy from those factories and pays a relative premium to not take the entire production run.

The balance are supposed to end up as basket pipes (because the wood quality we're intentionally not taking is not great by definition), mixed with other shapes. It looks like in this case that two shapes were cobbled together as a Christmas 'series'.

While not really germane to this post, but as an interesting side-bar on bowl turning at Peterson, here's a video (it was taken a few months ago):

A rather harsh indictment, Sykes. Below is the email from the owner of MySmokingShop to me. Perhaps he is drawing from untruths, mistaken, or completely and intentionally misreading the facts, but at the very least I drew from a primary source, the owner of a well known pipe brand and an established tobacconist, and someone with ties to the industry rather than merely fabricating it.

Yes, his email is less untrue than the summation of his email, which indicates (incorrectly; untruly) that there are Peterson pipes manufactured anywhere but Dublin. He's simply claiming that there's a common supplier, which I did not dispute.

I don't know where he is having these turned into finished pipes, but we're not making these in Dublin and there are no Petersons made anywhere else.

You would understand that the untrue statement 'low grade Petersons are made by a third party' would be something that we would not like propagated though, right?

Also, I also know Simon, both through Peterson stuff and through Gawith, where we have mutual friends. He's a good guy and I don't think his intent was to mislead here.

I don't think your intention was to mislead either, of course. It's just that there are really important distinctions that sometimes gets lost. This is akin to saying that Fords are made by a third party because the airbags are made by a supplier. Does that make sense?

I understand entirely. I was merely offering what I could in terms of information for users remarking at apparent similarities at the shapes, not suggesting these pipes are made by Peterson or that Petersons are made anywhere other than Ireland. In this case I assume the common supplier would be of bowls, and the bowls are of a similar enough appearance to Peterson shapes that other users remarked on the similarities. The clarification is appreciated. I think, however, that several users expressed a marked admiration for the Christmas pipes mentioned above, which you seem to insinuate are basket pipes that are "cobbler together." An email would have sufficed to have the offending comments edited to convey your meaning and would certainly have been more discreet.

Man, why keep doubling down on this? You said they said their pipes were "made" where some Peterson pipes are made which isn't what they said at all and isn't correct. I'd expect him to defend his brand publicly.

Whether some folks seem to like them really isn't relevant to the misstatement, and they are Wades in only the using the name sense of the word - they appear to be Peterson knock offs and fair play if they can make a decent smoking pipe (and maybe they are) whose appearance appeals to buyers.

Imitation is the sincerest form! I'll stick with my Petes, but I never judge what anyone else wants to buy for a pipe - grab one of those if it calls to you or anyone.
