My Wife Is Out Of Town.

When we built our place, I specifically designed my study to serve this purpose. I wanted the house to reflect both our needs and interests equally, so I keep it to my study and the great outdoors. Wood floors and wainscotting, special stripping around the door, and a blower to cycle the smoke out were the suggestions of the architect. There's a sliding door that goes to the deck, so I usually just open that.

I used to be able to do this all the time. Unfortunately for me, we now have a baby so when the wife leaves the baby stays home. Which not only means no smoking in the house, it means no trips to the smoke shack

What it does mean, however, is dinosaur steak on the grill, the game on tv, and bottle of red to the face.

Evidently, my wife is not typical or usual, but we knew that. She grew up in fairly remote rural Missouri on a cattle farm and helped her grandma cook for family and people who worked on the farm. We met in journalism school, and she spent her career working in Manhattan and on Long Island. I was a widower and she was retired when we got back together. She quit her Camel and Galois cigarette habit years back, but has bought me many beautiful pipes and has an uncanny sense for picking out blends I will enjoy, which I mostly smoke in my study but also around the house. She introduced me to horse racing and Paris. You may get the picture. My pipe smoking is okay with her. As was true of my late wife, she is not like anyone else.

Converted the third bay of the garage to heated and air conditioned man cave. Looking for a second home in Florida right now and this is a serious consideration in our search.

My wife is out of town until Wednesday night, just me, the dogs and cats until Wednesday night. My wife has no concern about my smoking but neither of us want the smell throughout the house. Need to arrange a 4 season smoking solution some time in the future.

I have my own study with doors that close to the rest of the house. A cracked window and and industrial sized air purifier is how things stay civil!

It is nice to have the house to yourself at times. I start those days by running around banging pits and pans together.

I have a 4 seasons room I smoke it with a serious exhaust fan, she doesn't complain.

Cherry pits? Peach pits? Avocado pits might be big enough to make some real noise.

Yes, it's nice to have complete freedom of movement, thought and TV.

Same here, the only thing is I don't smoke around the kids, so I go out to the shack to enjoy a smoke and listening to the 40m or my local repeater on 70cm

I want a radio shack like that!

I'm building a little insulated shack this summer that I can run a heater in the winter months so I can smoke my pipe more comfortably and in peace and quiet. Man I can't wait to start that project

I don’t smoke in the house out of respect to my wife even when she is out of town since it really bothers her. We have a screened in porch I smoke on. If it gets too cold I go in the garage or break into the Montessori school down the street but then I only smoke chocolate or fruit aromatics. The next day the kid wonder how come they didn’t get any treats.

I make fishing lures for a hobby and have a work space in the upstairs of my house. The wife doesn't mind me smoking there.
