@zanthal- Like Fnord, I am a huge fan of beeswax for many pipe-related applications. If you don't want the gigantic 1 lb. block from a craft/hobby store, you can buy a small disk of it at Ace Hardware. It is about the size of a Reese's peanut butter cup, and lasts for damned ever.

If it's Vulcanite use a candle and gently heat the tenon and it will return to normal size. #Fact

I'm with the "just smoke 'em" team. Neither the briar nor the stem material is likely to have experienced any significant movement over a single season. Once you reintroduce a little moisture everything should tighten up. If you do anything now to expand the tenon, you risk making it too tight after a few smokes.

Glad it worked.
Please ignore Harris. His first and foremost pipe problem solution is to insert the aforementioned problem into an anus. It's not always his anus - but it's usually his.
Beeswax is the Carmex/WD-40 of tenon troubles: sticky or loose, the stuff is magic.
Those two items would probably fall under the "Fix it/Hell, Cure it" slot alongside Turpentine and Castor Oil.

P.S. TY, Aldecaker for the heads up on Ace hardware.
