My Second La Biota (Michele Sottocasa) Pipe

This is the second pipe I now have from this carver. I really like how he uses bamboo in long curves:

What’s it like to smoke?

That's one dramatic pipe. I like the curved bamboo and the overall horn shape, and the extra wide walls of the bowl and wide brim. That's one to smoke in hand.

It's new. The picture does make it look rough but in handling and examining it up close it's bowl coating that could've been applied better. Not applied at all would have been my preference.

The part to the bottom of where it looks rough is actually built up like a little ridge

I'm not sure if I should gently sand/scrape the coating or just burn/smoke it off.

Good, didn't want to see you get ripped off. A damp cloth should take that off.

Good looking pipe. The style suits you I think. I’m with ‘embers. I’d rub the coating out with a damp cloth. I think most carvers use a mix of gelatin and charcoal dust, so it’s probably water soluble and easy to remove. I know some people like the aesthetics of black chamber walls, but I’ve personally never cared one way or the other as far as how it looks. The inside will darken with smoking anyway.
