Looks good. Take a bit more wood off the shank, and it would look great! You've got talent. Keep at it!

Hey thanks for all the praise and criticism. More off the shank you say tschiraldi? I agree and will do. Shallow bowl but smokes great. Made myself sick last night smoking some SG Dark Birds Eye in it, yikes that stuff has some serious nicotine!

Great effort. Looks to me like a bit of Danish influence. I don't know about taking any more off the shank but perhaps a slight bend in the stem would complete the look. Let us know what you decide, if anything.

Looking good. I think he means thinner where the shank meets the bowl but I could be wrong. A steeper transition.

Nifty pipe, good clencher and probably a good cooker for Virginias, Va/Per, and flake/plug/coin/rope. You did right with the saddle stem.

I see what you guys mean about the shank being a little funky near the bowl, thinning it out would definitely make it look more normal but I kinda think the current look gives it a unique 70's danish kinda feel, not sure what I think about it..

mso - yeah I like the bit too, just needs to be sanded yet. Its a good work pipe, sits, clenches and has a shallow bowl for a slightly shorter smoke. Thanks again guys, making your own pipe is pretty fun. My next project is a Sav 320 lookalike, just not sure what to do about the silver band part, or if I will even add that, we'll see.

...flake/plug/coin/rope will give you long smokes in a shallow and/or small bowl. I've had 30 minutes plus out of a Group 1, to my surprise.

I stand by my previous comment. I really don't think you should change anything on it. :puffy:

Since its only my second pipe I've decided to leave as is. I'm happy with it and it will be fun to see what I think of it after my skills improve.

Mso - Ill try a flake tomorrow Comoy#7 or maybe some Old Dark fired...

And again guys thanks for the praise and opinions!

While strict adherence to many classic shapes dictates a thinner bowl/shank junction, I prefer what you did, and give mine a similar treatment. The bit of extra thickness at the joint adds to the strength of the shank, and provides a more aesthetically pleasing transition. This can be enhanced with a very slight bend of the stem. Carve on!

I've not been a fan of chubby shank transitions. I realize that distinguishing the shank from the bowl in a more distinct and refined fashion might be less durable, but when I need durable, I use my cobs or my Brylon Yello Bole.
I really like a pipe that has a fully defined or suggested as such, bowl, and that is achieved with difficulty, I imagine, at the junction of shank and bowl.
With that said, I like your pipe and applaud your initiative and efforts.
