After listening to the comments of folks, like lestrout, papipeguy and others who have been generous enough to try Plan B and give their opinions, I decided to make another batch, but this time hold out the Oriental tobaccos, and add them in after the bulk of the blend has been doused in Cognac and pressed. So, here's...
Plan B2

Same as Plan B, amounts increased by 25%, Turkish Blend held until after the Cognac is mixed in

And at the same time, I mixed another batch, same leaf types and ratios, but with some different leaf sources:

Just wondering do you douse the blend in cognac and then let it age wet for a month? I've been experimenting with whisky but letting it dry overnight first before storing it. I'm wondering if I leave it wet is it going to get moldy or is the taste going to come through more?

Andrew, let it age wet. The idea is to marry some of the tobacco qualities.

I have not had a problem with growth of any kind. Cognac is 80 proof, and the alcohol alone will suppress mold.
Now, on this batch, I will dry after aging and prior to adding the oriental tobaccos. I want the orientals to stay separate in the blend.

Try holding out the oriental until after the Cognac'd tobaccos age for a month. I liked having the oriental in the blend without having been blended with everything else.

Sounds great woodsroad! I haven't tried any blending yet but have made some nice mixes.
"Cake Mix": 2oz Anni Cake, 2oz Classic Burley Cake and 1oz Louisiana Red
"Thanks a Lat": 2oz Magnum Opus, 2oz Beverwyck, 2oz FMOTT
These each have a few months on them right now and turned out really well.

Can you define "pressed"? What are you doing to press the mixture?
This is great btw. I can't wait to try a few blends. Thanks.

jmill, it's all low-tech at this point. "Pressing" is nothing more than compacting as much as you can into a Ball jar, then screwing the lid on and letting it sit for a month. So it's not so much the pressure, but the wet intimacy (that's what the girl at the picnic said!). It gives the tobaccos a chance to do some melding.
The truth is that it changes the blend, and that's all that matters.
A hydraulic press is in the wings......

Yup.

What I like about this is there isn't any mystery to it.
Order up the tobacco, weigh it, mix it, jam it, smoke it, enjoy it, tweak it, really enjoy it.
