I've had one of those for 25 years. Same color, even. Never knew they were called whippets, though.

FYI when wearing it out and about together with a horsehide jacket: You'll get called Indiana Jones now and again. lol (Even got a free drink a couple times... once from another Indy hat wearer across the room, and once from the barkeep)

-------

Just checked the brand. It's a Biltmore, made in Canada. (not as patriotic, but doubtless puts out a friendlier vibe, eh?)

That's why they're called Whippets!

Of course. [insert "duh!" emoticon]

Looks like I need a bullwhip to complete things. ;)

(I actually never gave the slightest thought to the movie when I got the jacket or the hat. They were just eminently practical for what I was doing at the time, which was running a live-load flatbed to everywhere imaginable in North America. Not too hot, not too cold, could be worn indoors or out, shed water like a duck, stupidly rugged, significant abrasion/accident protection, etc. Probably all the same reasons that whoever wrote the Indiana Jones character chose them.)

The Whippet will look well with a Harris Tweed shooting coat that I purchased years ago when I worked for The Orvis Company, but it would also work with the horsehide jacket that Georged pictured above. Darn it, now I suppose I'll have to shop for one of those! :)

Nice lid. Classy but not too formal. I hope it serves you well.

I’ve always been fond of the Stratoliner and saw where Stetson has a limited run of beaver fur Strats this fall. Must resist...

Just FYI, but Stetson went out of business in 1970. Now, it is merely a brand. Hatco produces the hats with the Stetson name on them now, which also makes all sorts of hats ranging in variety of quality levels. But, Stetson made such a name for itself, that people still look for that label, 53 years latter. But, really, it is just a name now.

But, that is a very nice hat.
