Just got this guy on eBay - has a stamp saying "HANDMADE BY ERIK NORDING" with a 4 near it. Mostly wondering if it's worth the 40ish bucks I paid for it (barring any unlisted problems, of course). Also wondering how to fix the stem oxidation - I assume the bleach method should work?

Greetings and salutations, and welcome to the forum!
I love the shape and feel of Nordings like yours. While I am far from an expert on pricing estate pipes, I would be happy with that pipe at a $40 price.
There are lots of posts in the Pipe Repair section of the forum on cleaning stem oxidation; and I'd encourage you to wander through them. That being said, a soak in oxyclean, thorough rinse, and rub down with 0000 steel wool and magic eraser should clean up the light oxidation. For a more lustrous shine you'll want to grab some micromesh sanding pads and or find someone with a buffing wheel.
If the pipe has been previously smoked, I'd highly encourage you to complete a salt and alcohol treatment on the bowl, and then clean both the shank and stem thoroughly with pipe cleaners soaked in alcohol (I use 99% isopropyl alcohol, others use everclear) until they run clean. These processes are also well documented in other threads on the forum.
Welcome again, and enjoy that lovely pipe.

Yeah, the oxidation removal is actually easier than you'd think. I removed it from a vulcanite stem with a soak in Everclear and scrubbing with a Magic Eraser. Then I buffed it with a gentle nail buffer my fiance had.
A Nording at $40 sounds like a good deal to me. The Nording pipe I have is wonderful and I've only ever heard good things about his pipes.

Welcome and congrats on your Nording. I'll bet it weighs next to nothing and will smoke like a champ. It looks like it only needs a little TLC and the price is very good. Enjoy it.

I think 40 bucks is fair, especially if your happy with it. Just a note. Those "N"'s aren't stamped too deep and they are pretty fine script. You might want to be careful with any sanding or clean up you do. I ended up taking off an "N" stamp on my Nording Cobra.
I do not know if a glob of petroleum jelly will protect it from the bleach.
Enjoy your new pipe!

Very nice pipe! I like the heft of the freehand Danishes. Enjoyable when sitting and reflecting (on what pipe or tobacco to get next :P)
