Congrats on the job! It's great having it so close to your home. My first company I was driving sometimes an hour or more to a job, at least gas was cheap. By not having to use a car you can add that to your wage! My second company was 1.5 miles away and could see the building from my kitchen, was nice to have a couple minute drive and home for lunch.
Well Kielbasa just got added to the shopping list. :D

The place is called D&J Sausage Factory and it's in Brantford ON Canada. If anyone is ever in Toronto its only an hour or so away and well worth the short trip for the great prices on meats and Euro groceries. A loaf of Polish light rye bread is only $1.99 where as the grocery store (NoFrills) sells it for 3.99. Cheap saurkraut and other pickled treats too.
Forgot to mention as well I'm also getting a free benifit of learning Polish. With German and Spanish already in my vocabulary it can't hurt to know another one lol. I must say Polish is hard to learn but not near as hard as when I tried Russian. I have a basic understading of Russian as well so that helps. I've only been working there about there three wks so far I can already carry on basic conversations and do my shopping in the storefront in Polish. I don't have to learn it as part of the job but it helps alot when I'm the only Canadian guy there who doesnt speak it (theres one other who had been there 5yr he is in charge of packing orders in the cooler and he's fluent). Apparently I'm doing very well in all aspects of the job, including the language. It sure as shit beats driving a lift truck in a dead end job with a no where to advance company

Trailboss, I bet he gets practically mauled by his dog.
"I like this guy a hell of a lot more. Damn, he smells so good after work and these boots taste A-MAZING!"

I don't have a dog (wish I did) however I have a cat who doesn't care either way. I do bring treats for my friend's dogs. He is the one who built my pipe rack for me, he has two Dogo Argentino's and a Boxer/Lab Mix and they go nuts for ham bones, as well once in a while I bring them a smoked shoulder or a couple small jowels for a snack.

That is so cool! Nothing like a family run business for job satisfaction. They sure take care of their people a lot more than any corporate job.

Congrats! You had my mouth watering right up until Trailboss mentioned slaughterhouses.
Your new mission is to convince them to open an online store so we can all get in on the action.

Forgive the non pipe related question about dumb demographics but I'm going to ask anyway.
With all the Polish names for the meats, plus you being the odd man out with the Polish language, is there a large Polish emigre or ex-pat population in Ontario?
Like everyone else here I'm happy for your new job and the lack of stress it provides. Congratulations, pal.

@Brother Fnord -- Toronto, and the cities around it, are a smorgasbord of different cultures and communities. One of Toronto's alternate names is, "The City of Neighbourhoods." Immigration has truly built southern Ontario. Large numbers of Ukrainian, Polish, Italian, Portuguese, Irish, Scots, Greeks, and English came over in the late 1800s and early 1900s. In the later half of the 20th century we started to see increased immigration from Asia and South America. This is a wonderful place to live in for exposure to to the food, languages and cultures of the world.
@Cav -- Pal, it sounds like you're in and loving your new gig. Congratulations man, it truly sounds like something you're taking to and enjoying. Nice work pal.

There is a large European population in the area I live in. German, Polish, Ukranian, Romanian and Dutch make up a good portion of the population around here. I'm German/English so I'm not that far off. We might be making more German products as long as I can get them to sell in the store(s). As for online store I don't think they want to deal with something like that. We are busy enough as it is and with Christmas coming its going to be even busier
