I just got a early Christmas present from my wife! She told me we were driving to West Virginia, just for a little time away...then surprise!

Nice dog! :D
Tons of coon hunters where I live, so I respect the acquisition of a good hunting dog even though I don't have any myself.

The sound of a good dog baying "Gotcha" far into the woods is, indeed, music to one's ears.
Congrats, Sir.

Know exACTLY what you mean, economist! It's been years since I had use/need for a huntin' dawg, but I remember it well from my duck-hunting days! Fabumous luck on you, smitty! :):)

In your neck of the woods, do you track after the coon hounds or sit around the fire and listen for your hound's distinctive call? That is one lovable gangly puppy.

He'll take to hunting; it's in his blood. But his main duties may be companionship. These little ones learn their people with close observation and hard study. We're their food source and part of their "weather." I don't know whether I love 'em more when they are adorable young'uns, adults in their primes, or wise old nobles. The old ones have a powerful presence.
