After admiring many of your Meers, I took Hoosierpipeguys advice and opted for an Altinay.

I'm just part way through my first bowl (HH Syrian Latakia) but I'm blown away by the quality of this Nedim Altinay pipe and the quality and purity of the smoke.

I think I understand what the fuss is about and I'm sure this won't be my last Meer or Altinay.

I'm anxious to see how this colors and will update periodically.20230228_165156.jpg

It will take a few smokes and then you will really get to enjoy it. I have been smoking mine everyday since it arrived. I will have more ALTINAY'S for sure. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.
This is a good point. Don't let the first few smokes discourage you. Chalk chalk chalk. All of them taste the same in the beginning. I hate breaking in new meers.

My first smokes in Meers have been fine. That's a fine looking Meer, Altinay makes a great pipe.
I personally have found the first few smokes out of every meer I have to be very dry is the only way i know how to describe it. Not so much chalk just very very dry to me. Everyone may have a different experience with this than me though.

The first one or two smokes may have been somewhat slightly different. Very slight though, not enough for me to really take notice. I'll pay more attention the next time I buy a new Meer.

Congrats! Quick question, can you pass a pipe cleaner through the pipe to the bowl without disassembling the stem from the bowl? If so this might be the brand for me.

If it's not too much trouble could you take the stem off and take a few photos and post them?

I just had to return a Meer purchase from another brand, and I'd like to avoid that if possible.

Yes I've had the same experiences. Very dry is the only good way to describe it!

Pipe cleaner passes with no problem and mine is a push style but not sure if all Altunays are.20230303_150111.jpg20230303_150145.jpg20230303_150227.jpg

Thanks for those images. I emailed him after I posted and he answered right away. He suggested picking out the pipe first and he would pass a pipe cleaner through it before shipping it. He said almost all of his, included bents, will pass a pipe cleaner, so that's encouraging,

I really like the carving design on yours, very elegant without being overwhelming.
