I’m pleased there are a few of us in favour of Keystones, and their alternative, meer chips

They are cheap and reusable.
And for me, their cost is more than offset because dottle is minimised.

I had a few smokes on the weekend.
I couldn’t dry the tobacco in the sun as it has been rainy and overcast for over a week. With more wet weather to come.

I used a few more Keystones/meer chips than usual and packed a bit looser.

All bowls smoked to ash, with no relights

I really can’t recommend them more highly

Im cheap. I break up broken red clay pots that got broken during use. Give them a rinse in the colander and you have a big batch. The textured clay is very absorbent. The other benefit is it keeps your pipe considerably cleaner.

I've used akadama soil.

Id never heard of that but I looked it up. That would work great. Basically hard clay right?

I use my chips homemade or bough until I drop or misplace them.
