Just bought a pipe care kit. I'd like to see if I can clean up / repair / restore some old estate pipes. I have a manual to do some restoring but in my little kit there are a couple things that I have no idea what they are for. For example....

Why did you have to post those pics above? The top one (WTF is this?) of you staring at that thick tube with the tapered sides is driveing me crazy. I've seen that thing before but for the life of me I can't remember where or what it's for! I'll keep trying...
