When my budget allows I want to try my hand at hand cut stems. Need a few more tools for the lathe and would like to pick up a good 1" belt sander,which would save a lot of wear and tear on my hands!

That will not help you a lot James.For corners and curves you'll always use sand paper with hands...........unfortunately.For some complex stem i have to work on it for 1-2 and sometime 3 hours 8O

Yes,I know that. I Also know that a 1" belt sander can be used to do a lot of rough shaping and that the stem must be finished up BY HAND with files and sandpaper.
