Because the Dr told him that it was cleaner...I have heard the same story from a number of people a number of times. So I assume that this happened?

I believe it Steamtrain. Years ago my Mother who was raising 3 kids by herself went to the Doctor for her nerves. He told her to smoke cigarettes and prescribed Tranquilizers to go along with the cigs.

There is the story (supposedly true) about a wealthy family's asthmatic son in the 1920s or 30s who was having a terrible time with his illness. They took him to a world renowned medical expert in Austria who taught the child to inhale unfiltered cigarettes....it apparently helped to solve the problem. ( This is not meant to endorse the procedure.)

Which reminds me of something; Dean Wormer was talking out his ass when he claimed that "Fat drunk and stupid is no way go through life".
I'm lovin it!

Now they are saying that pipes are better for you because we dont inhale and

that Pipe Tobbaco is more natural then processed cigarette tobacco which would even include Tops roll your own.

The real question is how long ago was this? It is interesting to see how the medical field has changed in such short times!
Not only has the medical field changed, but cigarettes have changed too. They have gone from being some tobacco wrapped in tissue paper to a cocktail of tobacco and over 500 different chemicals, still wrapped in tissue paper. They now contain everything from banana oil to concrete and most of the stuff you can't even pronounce the name.
I can't help but wonder if it's the tobacco that's killing people or the chemicals.?

They say tobacco kills, I have one grandfather chewed tobacco and smoked cigs died at 87, hit by a mini van as he crossed the road after cutting wood all day. My other grandfather smoked P.A. in a pipe from the time he was 16 until the day he died at the age of 97. I have a hard time believing tobacco is a killer.

My Grandfather and his sister both smoked heavily . Aunt Ollie smoked Plowboy. Both lived to the ripe old age of 97. It is the crap they add to cigarettes that kills not the tobacco in my opinion.

Oh,....trust me tobacco CAN be a killer,....sorry.
Of the adults I was raised around in the 1960’s who smoked pack after pack of cigarettes every day,.....7 out of 10 of them are all dead now. And they didn't get hit by lightning or fall out of a freakin’ tree.

Three died sitting in their own home near an O2 bottle, one after 6 days in the hospital,(my dad), and one with COPD. And they were all comparatively young. My mother tugs around an O2 bottle as we speak.
Mind I'm talking: “cigarettes” and not “pipes”, so don’t get your panties in a wad,……but we DO need to be at least a little realistic sometimes.

Yeah, youre right Tom. We're a bunch of smokers in our family, needless to say that the lot of them aren't doing to well. Even after quitting. My Father had a theory after watching alot of people get sick soon after quitting smoking, drinking, and such. That he thought that it wasn't the smoking that caused the cancers, though of course it does..but its when the body starts to heal that it begins to mutate. I dont know, i thought it was intresting enough. I have no idea if its true or not though.
I've never heard of a person being sick from smoking pipes, do you guys know many people who have fallen ill from pipe smoking? It always seems like they smoke for years and never have much trouble. I mean, im sure their are cases of it..but what do you guys know about that? (Sorry if i've gone off topic a bit)

It is funny though to hear what they had to say years ago!
And as a kid I used to think the cigarette commercials were so cool!
"Show us your Lark??"

There is the image of a pipe smoker that is pretty common, old men and Grandpas. Now there has to be a correlation here, pipes can't be too bad for us. How many people come up to you and say their Grandpa smoked a pipe? I always ask how old when he died and it is usually in the 80's and 90's.
Cigarettes, are a whole different thing. Chemical infused tobacco and paper.

I agree Earl. Both Grandpa and Aunt Ollie were pipe smokers. As were a lot of the family who lived to become nearly a century old. On the other hand most of the heavy cigarette smokers are long gone.
