Yes, OTC are "tobaccos", and a box of Franzia is "wine" and a Big Mac is "beef".
Gentlemen, life is too short to drink cheap wine, eat fast food, or smoke pedestrian tobaccos. They are unsatisfying, uninspired and appeal to the lowest common denominator. It's not about hype, it's about quality.

Takes cojones to speak your mind, and the truth (IMO, truth to me, maybe not to you, YMMV).

EDIT: edited for clarity.

I honestly had no idea I would spark so much controversy. For the record, I own two MM Country Gentlemens (being a country gentlemen myself). And I smoke mostly PA out of them. But I'm surprised that a wonderful first experience with a nice Englsh blend would be controversial on a pipe forum? Anyway, I'm happy to be here and not sure what took me so long.

sothron, you didn't cause any controversay and you certainly do not have to justify your comments or opinions to anyone!

I agree.. that's one thing I do like about it here, we might not always agree with the opinions of others here, but we always try to maintain civility in our discussions. If everyone thought exactly the same about pipe smoking there would only be one or two pipes brands/shapes and tobacco blends available, what would be the fun in that?

EMP is a mainstay baccy for me and my first English as well. Yeah complexity-wise an average English can knock it out of the park if you're used to some OTC. You will always go back to those old OTC favorites, though. I still like my Captain Black.

As a cig smoker I find that Irish Oak is a very good substitute. Strong and not overtly aromatic.

Don't try Lane 1Q! (I'm dissuading as many people as possible, so I can have it all to myself!!)

Lane 1-Q is good stuff and it contains fewer preservatives than BW. I say smoke it all! Smoke everything! These ARE the good ol'days. We have access and variety and at least in the US, the govermnment has failed thus far at putting the screws to us. One day when we've all been overtaken by fascist dystopia,You'll have a cellar full of secret baccy and you can recount the days when any man could gat a pipe and baccy and enjoy his freedom!

WOW! Did You Guys know that life is too short? I didn't, I better sell My 2004 jeep that I paid $30K for and buy a $200K limo and get a driver but then I'm just a lowest common denominator. I might get kicked off this site but what an ass for saying that.

Ace, you're making my point for me. $30k is a lot of money so you didn't buy the cheapest car on the lot, but you spent your money wisely for a quality product.

Back to your corners, ladies. :nana: Bottom line is, tobacco=good and we like it, right?
sothron, I would hazard a recommendation for GL Pease Cairo as another good smoke that might appeal to you. Let me know how that turns out.
