I havent been smoking pipes all that long, especially compared to some of the members of this forum but I decided to head out to my covered porch on this stormy, rainy, Sunday afternoon with my Mr. Brog 114 Churchwarden and a bowl full of Dunhill Elizabethan. Here in Washington State we dont have a lack of these days but this was the first REALLY rainy day of the season and I figured I ought to celebrate the beginning of true fall up here. Naturally my ugly-as-sin Mastiff Lab mix wanted to join me so I bring out all of my supplies (tamper, zippo pipe lighter, snifter of 14 Year Oban Scotch) and prop my feet up for a smoke. Usually I end up having to relight 3 or 4 times which is further testament to my newness but this one just worked out so I only had to relight once in the middle and I got to sit there with my thoughts and watch the downpour.
It truly was an amazing experience. The smoke nice and cool from the churchwarden, dogs head on my lap, nice cool breeze that I lost myself in the experience. I got a good 20ish minutes into my reverie when I get the nudge on my arm and the sniffle-sniffle groan as though coming from a 80 pound pig from the beastie needing to be taken out. I was originally a cigar guy but this experience has given me a newfound respect for pipes and believe you me I am officially hooked.
