My First Meerschaum Clean Up (Restore Light)

Here’s my first Meerschaum clean up. This pipe was given to me by my brother in law who doesn’t smoke. It belonged to his father who passed away in 1978. It survived in boxes in the closet for the last 43 years. I’d like to imagine he was a loved father, you don’t keep stuff like this around unless there is a reason (Unless your a hoarder or something ;-) He raised caring and loving children, so I assume he was a good guy. Given this history, it has special meaning from fathers to sons, to family.

It’s a Servi, which has been around as a brand since 1974. Mustafa Servi‘s family has been carving Meerschaum pipes for generations, handing down the tradtion. I hope to do it some honor with my newbie skills.

(BTW, smoking Balkan Supreme with a pinch of BCA for it’s maiden voyage in my care)

Thank you. Read a little from Reborn Pipes, Light alcohol (Tito’s, it’s not just for breakfast anymore!) on pipe cleaners. Did a little warm water rinse internals. Murphy’s Oil Soap and warm water outside (cork inserted in bowl), soft microfiber hand buff.

I didn't either. I use detergent with a scrubbing sponge. Hot water inside and out. They do clean up pretty nicely.

Anything that comes with a background story or memories attached becomes something much more than an object.

Thanks all. I am very very amateur, so please read up on meer cleaning. I just grabbed a few blurbs from experts like Steve Laug at Reborn Pipes and others. I am assuming Murphy’s is safe based on their findings; and my one time trial.

BTW, it smokes well. Cool and dry, super lite.
