My First Dunhill Cumberland

I’ve wanted one for about as long as I’ve been smoking a pipe. Admittedly, that’s not terribly long. I’m glad I waited and pulled the trigger on this one, though. I got it at a very fair price from a fellow forum member. The ring grain is much more appetizing than what I’ve typically seen from Dunhill. Bonus - after a little research I learned that it’s a first year (1979). Not particularly noteworthy, but I thought it was a fun touch ?‍

To me, the Cumberland is the classiest of the Dunhill lines. I don't own one as I've limited my collecting to an earlier era, but I'm always drawn to the ones I see.

This one is a lovely smoker, I have no hesitation recommending one. I think they are just the most handsome looking pipes. I’m obsessed with Cumberland stems and a nice blast these days, so this line ticks all the boxes. Plus, 80’s Dunhill’s don’t command much in terms of price it seems, so they’re a steal compared to new ones.

I’ve seen more than a few pipes stamped “DIEHL” on the forums, they must have been (or still are) a well known shop in Germany? I’ve never researched them.

yes it's a very large tobacconist in Munich. I went to and like "Tabak Somer" when I went there.

That is a very nice looking pipe. It's shape elegant and the rusticated finish is, well, a little rustic. It's like the tweed jacket of pipes.
