Trying my first bowl tonight, so far so good. Its not lighting the world on fire but I can see myself enjoying this as my tastes develop. I'm detecting some sweet notes that I can't describe but im enjoying myself and sipping very slowly with a few re lights

I've had the tin for 6 weeks and didnt have the guts to try it, I'm glad I waited so I could properly appreciate it.

Thats what I read so I picked it up. My tastes are starting to develop as I try more and more and this is getting better as the bowl gets lower. The sweetness is more pronounced now.

I really took my time with this bowl and it paid off, smoked right down to the ash and it was great! Took me 2hrs to actually finish the bowl (I had 2 significant distractions but think they may have actually helped me out). If the weather holds I plan on trying another coin tomorrow night. Nic was pretty strong but it didn't hurt my stomach like some other strong nice blends do, just gave my head a little spin which really wasn't unpleasant. ;)

On top of that, throw the jar in the corner and forget about it for a couple of years and it becomes perfection.

Come on Roth..."cannot be beat"? On any given day, one Vaper can be better than the other. So many factors come into play. What you're doing, drinking etc. But it's one of my top ones and grab it when it says "hey, it's my turn!"

I like it when I can sit and let my mind drift. I've found I don't enjoy it as much when I'm on a walk or doing something in the yard. I liked it when I tried it, but it took nearly half the tin for me to love it.
Now I just keep it as a treat. I don't want to smoke it everyday but instead savor the times that I do.

I'm curious: Has anyone noticed much/any difference between the brand new batches of Escudo and those released under the Petersen or even Cope's brands?

I knew that Cope was no longer making them, and my first tin was by AC Petersen, and the tin I just bought from P&C was also AC Petersen. Did they just recently switch manufacturers again?

brdavidson:
Check out this thread: http://pipesmagazine.com/forums/topic/a-amp-c-petersen-tobaccos-still-available.
Apparently, Petersen went out of business in 2011. Folks in the thread, far more knowledgeable than I about this, note that Escudo is now being made by Orlik.

Sounds like the coy way Rattray's continue to label their blends: "Blended for Charles Rattray, Perth, Scotland." I've even noticed some Rattray's tins on eBay that say "Blended by Charles Rattray," even though the bottom importer label clearly marks them as current K&K blends.

not to get off topic
I have the solution: Just tell all such "How much can I get for this pipe on eBay" inquirers that their pipes will be worth significantly more money if they fill them with Escudo.
;)

I have no experience with the older Cope's version of Escudo, so no comment on that one. I do have a lot of experience with AC Peterson Escudo but unfortunately it is hard to compare to the new version because my only AC experience lately is 2001 and 2008 tins. The new stuff is real tasty fresh and if it were not real close I would probably notice something. Age does change this blend a lot so remembering what it tasted like fresh years ago is impossible for me. My memory doesn't work like that, now I can tell you from who I bought those 2001 tins from and how much I paid, but that is about it.
Escudo is a world class blend that all other vapers are judged in my opinion. I am sure that like any blend it has to go through changes because tobacco crops go through changes. I am positive they are not making 2013 Escudo with 2001 tobacco, so as long as it tastes good to me now, that is all I care about.
