@peck, thanks. You are a lawyer. Please serve a writ on Her Indoors, otherwise you will be wrong.
I have a Baccyflap; a wonderfully constructed Bakelite device, with a perfect screw seal which is ideal for carrying a reasonable quantity of tobacco. The original 'Wunup' is the best version; reborn has them on his website.

Flaky: You win! My sympathies and envy. Girls are great until they stop taking your hand to cross the street or parking lot. Suddenly, you're no longer needed. Until they are teens, then they resent your advice as they ask for your money. Then, after college, they become daddy's girl for a while again, if you are lucky. Of course, the the "pickers" begin to hang around the house. Troublesome times!
I loved every minute of it. Hope you are as lucky!
You must treat yourself to a new pipe when the 12 year old leaves the nest. That's a milestone to observe. Mine was surprised how well we took it. Perhaps the champagne and confetti were a bit much!

I made a complete commitment to concentrate all efforts on building the best cellar possible before the crushing laws/taxes start rolling in. I've been able to completely control buying pipes (PAD) other than low end estates to have something to use in the short run. It's been hard as hell to see pipes I want, or even commission a pipe. Being a member on this forum is actually brutal seeing all the works of art. That may in some way help keep that urge in check, but I know that the unique works of art will keep rolling. Tobacco on the other hand years down the line will be very expensive and many blends gone. Though a cellar will never truly be complete, it can reach a stage of "mostly complete". Pipes are unique functional and sculpted pieces of art. They'll increase in value and just like the art in your home, a pipe will come up and it will hit that spot in your brain and you must have it. You're a man who collects fine things, how can you turn off unique pieces of art? :puffpipe:

I'm sure your collection will turn introspective now. Refining and replacing only as needed really weeds out the riff raff. Give it a few years of- If one comes in, the replacement leaves. You already have amassed a great collection of fine pipes. I'm confident it will only improve.

@guhrillastile, you have hit the nail right on the head. I was thinking only this morning that my pipe collecting hobby will be mutated not only into amassing fine tobaccos for my retirement but also in refining the pipe collection I already have. Most of my pipes are English and Irish where I have focussed on old Barling's, Comoy's, Charatan's, Peterson's and Dunhill's. I will now be able to concentrate even more on the smoking experience, rather than thinking about the 'next pipe purchase'. Some of my pipes deserve a bit of work, and in this regard I am lucky to have reborn who is a 'Ninja' restorer of British pipes.

Congrats on your very very last pipe, forever...and ever. No more. That's it. Finished. Done.
Yeah, right!! :)
I'll believe that when your wife calls me and tells me its true! LOL LOL
Good luck with that Peterson-one of my first pipes every purchased over 40 years ago is very similar to that one.

flakey, that is a great looking pipe. 70 pipes is definitely a lot of pipes, I can understand your desire to quit now. I have never owned that many as I feel that I cannot keep that many pipes happy at the same time. My goal is to have around 40 artisan pipes that to a one are tremendous smokers and pipes that I always want to reach for. So far I am at 27 pipes that I absolutely love so I have room for another 13. I do have one commission in the works and that should be hitting soon. At my peak I owned about 60 pipes and found for me it was too many. Pipes need constant love and when they get ignored, they just will not smoke like they should. I hate hearing that low whine that says smoke me smoke me, you are ignoring me.
Yes I do take meds for my condition. lol

I will have enough pipes when I have a good 366 day rotation. :puffpipe:
Glad to hear you found your happy number though.

Every time I decide to stop I find my taste changes. Shapes, weights and bowl size. My overall collection hasn't increased in size I just keep culling and buying more. I do notice the shapes now have gotten down to just a few. Flakey my hat is off to you for your self control. Great choice too!

@piper, it's been hard looking impotently at eBay these last couple of days! But I am resolved. You are right about different types of pipes feeling right at different times, but I have a good range in my current collection, from several very small bowls to huge 'Big Bertha Barling's' so there is always one to suit my tobacco/mood. I will never sell any, but may give some away.
What I see happening is that while all pipes will be smoked monthly some will get smoked more frequently, and as a result of my recent tasting experiences I am increasingly dedicating certain pipes to particular tobacco types, even to specific blends.
