Thanks to Pyrotec, I found out I could get my Emperor cob just the way I wanted, which is to say a straight stem with the polished bowl, not nekked like they usually do. I ordered this on tuesday and got it today. I love these suckers, I think they are too cool. Much better looking then the monstrosities that the Mac's have become IMHO.

iqjones, do the pipes come this way from Missouri Meerschaum, or is this a custom revision done by someone else?

I like their looks. I might have a little trouble racking them, but they might live somewhere else. Who did these, and

how much (if you don't mind my asking)?

These are custom from Missouri Meerschaum. Pyrotec let me know. Just call them at their 800 number and you can tell them what you want. This new emperor model only comes in straight stem with nekked bowl. I wanted straight stem with polished bowl. It will cost you 15.00 on top of what they normally charged for the actual pipe. The Emperor is the "real" MacArthur as the ones they have been carrying have not been to the original Mac style. These were made for the Tommy Lee Jones movie, Emperor. Beware, they have not updated the website, so you have to call them for the Emperor version of the Mac. Hope that helps and post some pics if you get a custom.

I agree with lqjones about the new emperors looking way better than the MacArthurs (it would take a week to smoke a full bowl in the MacArthurs). Now just throw some forever stems on those bad boys and your good to go!

I've always been curious about the Macs-

I am assuming that everything on the bowl below the shank is solid-
In other words, if that entire depth of that cob was hollow- the stem is way above the base of the bowl so it would be impossible to smoke it to the bottom....
Follow?

As soon as I saw the picture that was my first thought ...

The shanks are at the base of the bowl, from there down it is solid cob. These bowls are not as deep as the current Macs they have listed and are easier to smoke NOT being as deep. They are only about as deep as the "Freehand" model if not even a bit shorter.

Pyrotec-
Thanks for filling in the blanks for me. I've got a lot of blanks....most of the space between my ears is blank, actually.

More information. Yes, the bowl does not go all the way to the bottom like the Mac's on the website do. I would say a little less deep then the Freehand. Your correct on the forever stems, got to get some real soon for my Emperors. Can't say enough about how nice the lady at MM was, I think her name was Marilyn. The turnaround time was exceptional and I was definitely not expecting them as quick as even the lady at MM said it might be a little while. Now I'm thinking a stained Emperor for my next "custom" cob. It also did take me a long time to convince myself to order a Mac and I don't know why. Now, I'm glad I did and can hardly wait to smoke it at the next local pipe smokers club/meeting.

That is the only part where I'll differ with you on the cobs. I like to get the same type of acrylic stems off ebay and drill out them out the way I like them. ...less than half the price... :puffpipe:
