I was loading a meer with some 3Star Blue and it dawned on me that I have smoked this blend regularly since, if my memory serves me, the early 1970's. I smoke other blends regularly but, 3Star is always available. I can live without it, sometimes go a week not touching the jar. But, somehow it's always here, near by, always a satisfying smoke.
It's not my favorite blend, Elizabethan is currently, but I'd never think of not having it nearby. Anyone else have a good, but not outstanding, blend that they must available in order to be comfortable?

Petersons Old Dublin. It was a nightmare when my local b&m ran out, before I began ordering online. I would stop by once a week asking if they'd be getting more in. Went a couple of months without that blend and really missed it.
Edit : I'm not sure it's my favorite and I sometimes go days without touching it, but it's one I never want to run out of again.

My favorite blend is C&D's Pegasus but since the beginning I've always kept Prince Albert around for when you just can't decide what to smoke. It's my go back to your roots blend.

GLP's Westminster for me, that one will always be by my side. If I sit and contemplate it while smoking it can be really complex, or just smoke it whilst doing something else and its just comforting...that one, to me anyways, is the blend I'll never be without....... :puffy:

McClelland's No. 2015 Virginia Perique Flake. Usually I get at least one bowl in. While this blend has good reviews one constant is "there's better VaPers available". True but this is my Carter Hall of VaPers. I just light and go. Sometimes I stop and say "that's good".

I'm still pretty new, so I'm sampling a lot of brands. A lot, and my tongue sometimes pays the price!
My "comfort blend," though, is Lane BCA. Like yours, it's not my favorite, but it's sweet tasting enough that I can taste it after I've abused my palate smoking too much of other stuff. It NEVER bites me, so I drop back to it if I start to get that tingly feeling from other blends. It's just a safe, comforting, easy but never exciting blend.
I can't imagine ever not having some on hand.

You & Me brother...but I think I've got my tongue in better shape lately, AND I've got a pretty good idea about what I like.

I do enjoy a good Lat blend regularly. Balkan Sasieni and Nightcap are my current Lat mainstays. I have some flakes in tins that I'm keeping to age awhile, but also some Newminster 400 and 403 on hand.

Participating in the bi-monthly tobacco crawls has been good for me, so far. Because of the last one, I bought a pound of aromatic tobacco. Aromatics weren't on my radar much, but C&D's Autumn Evening is good enough for me to keep around for awhile.

Tinned tobacco is more costly than bulk most of the time, but the crawl gives me a good 'excuse' to explore and at a reasonable pace. It usually costs around $30.00 for 4 tins of whatever is on the list and so far, they've been worthwhile purchases and have exposed me to blends I haven't tried.

That biotene suggestion floating about the forum is a big help with the tongue.

Middleton's Cherry Blend. It's very satisfying. Unlike what some think, the cherry flavor is never dominate. It's just somewhere in the background. A faint taste/aroma. The burly and Virginia is much more in the foreground. You get a real tobacco taste along with a little hint of cherry. (I've been mixing it lately with the new Mid-Town Cherry Blend). Loads well, and it's never goopy or wet. Just a comfortable tobacco for me.

For me, that blend is SWR Aromatic. I have had a large can open all the time for probably the past 15 years. Sometimes I may go weeks without a fill but it's always there if I just can't get behind any blend at that moment.

Captain Black Gold-first pouch I bought when I started the pipe 20yrs ago. I always keep a jar close by ,not my favorite ,but when I reach for it and pop the top on that old mason jar I feel like a kid again.

For me it's Sir Walter Raleigh and Hearth & Home Mid-Town Sweet Cask. Love my CONDOR but due to limited supplies I save it as a treat...

They would be Dunhill Flake, Luxury Navy Flake, and Old Dark Fired. Together they are my comfort blends. Two pipefuls of Dunhill in the morning- one upon waking, and one after breakfast, LNF throughout the day, and ODF before bed. I try to try other tobaccos, but these three are "necessities".

Dunhill Early Morning Pipe hands down. It's the blend that gave me my "ah-HA!" Moment many years ago and still scratches my itch to this day. Warren, I've never heard of 3 Star Blue, is it an OTC? I'd love to hear more about it.
