I was in a local antique mall where various vendors supply their products this afternoon and walking down one isle I ran across this pipe with a price tag stating the maker of the pipe and it's cost although no stamping located on pipe to be found. Needless to say I left the store owning the pipe along with a few pipe stands. According to the price tag it reads 'Savinelli - Italy #623'. I cannot find any information on this pipe. Can anyone lend their expertise as to if this is the genuine article or not? Thanks!
Anyway, for the price I'm still very happy with it either way. It seems to have a nice wide open draw, appears to not been smoked or very lightly smoked and in a great condition.

I doubt it's what the tag says. Savinelli is pretty rigid about their shape numbers and 623 is a bent bulldog. It's a cool pipe regardless. I'm curious about how the bamboo is afixed to the meerschaum though. It would seem like a potential weak spot.
If it hasn't been smoked, then you should check if its a block meer. Lick your finger and touch the inside of the bowl and see if it "sticks".

Someone else where brought it to my attention it might just be Ivory but as you suggested I stuck my finger to the bowl interior and it stuck somewhat.
I'm curious about how the bamboo is afixed to the meerschaum though.
Seems to be the same method as used in MM cob pipes.

Definitely not a Savinelli imo. Its not a run of the mill meerschaum either. Should smoke ok I would think. Careful with the bamboo if it goes all the way into the bottom of the bowl, would be easy to burn it.

I thinks its pretty cool. I love bamboo stems. I had the same question about how it was attached.
