If someone told me 5 years ago that I would spend my morning pipe smoke and coffee reading a pipe forum before I read the Wall Street Journal, I would have told them they were nuts. I don’t have a Facebook page and never posted on Twitter. But a buddy got me watching pipe videos on YouTube, listening to Brian Levine’s radio show, and following some artisan makers on Instagram, and a little over two years ago I found myself registering on Pipes Magazine forum. It took me a while to figure out the ebb and flow.of a few of my fellow codgers (I’m 67) but I’ve really come to enjoy this forum. Now with this, my 1000th post, I just want to say thanks.

i try to share my regular visits to iconic pipe shops like Iwan Ries, McCranie’s etc. and the sheer joy of trips to pipe shows in Chicago and Columbus and the friends I’ve made there. I love seeing other members‘ pipe collections and reading what blends they are smoking. I sometimes think the nostalgia of growing up in the 1960s when my uncles puffed away on Half and Half and my neighbor sat on the back patio sharing that sweet aroma of Prince Albert as he listened to Cleveland Indian and Pittsburgh Pirates baseball games is a large part of why I enjoy the pipe. To share in that tradition today with others of like mind is very satisfying..

So, I just want to say to all of you on this forum: thank you.

The place is brighter by your presence.

That sounded better in my head. It's something my dad would say.
Im more of a "super happy you're here bro" kinda guy. :)

Congrats. FYI the first thousand are pretty easy. The second thousand is arduous. The third thousand will leave you expecting a scolding from your significant other at least twice a week. The fourth thousand will leave you in cold sweats with hair growing on the palms of your hand. By the fifth, you'll want to start your mornings by swan-diving into an active volcano. Goes well with morning coffee and, perhaps, a burley forward blend.

But when you crest that 5k summit....oh boy was it worth it!

And by worth it, I mean...well, I won't spoil the surprise for you.

Mazel tov!

Thanks for taking part. You have a conservative post count for being here a couple years, indicative, no doubt of limiting your posting to times you have something meaningful to say. I, on the other hand, am a shameless post padder by comparison. I do, however, share your sentiment as far as the enjoyment of the interaction with those that are like minded. It's a nice resource and a great way to meet decent folk and share in something that brings us all together. I used to frequent a local cigar lounge for the same reason when i was younger. Now i'm older, live farther out in the forest and get out less due to multiple factors, so being able to log in and "be there" is also a nice convenience. Congrats on 1000 posts! :)
