Been working on the "in the mouth & out the nose"....been getting a weird sort of taste that can best be described as almost plasticy or almost shelac-like.....maybe I'm still burning too hot? Pipe only feels warm, though.....

Ok, lets cover basics first to eliminate the more obvious problems.
Did you put your tobacco in the big hole and put the small hole end in your mouth? Are you sure it's tobacco? Really sure?
One more thing, how do you light the pipe? I recently got a Zippo and if I forget the advice I got from here and light immediately after striking the spark -instead of waiing a couple of seconds- then the first puffs are a glorious taste of Zippo oil. :-P
^^^Seriously, excellent advise Billkay! Beginners should read that piece of advice until they've memorized it. The char light, if done wrong, which most beginners do it wrong, can ruin the entire smoke, let alone the entire smoking day.
Might have been a tad soggy, was the Holiday "Match" blend, which was actually clumpy when it first arrived, I've had the bag open, trying to dry it....I light with just plain old wooden kitchen matches, which I let burn long enough to burn all the phosphorus, etc off the tip.....I'm using a Missouri Meerschaum cherry hardwood.....maybe the filter's just loaded with crap & it needs a good cleaning? I caught a very slight taste of something vaguely fruity, but then I guess I started overthinking & tried too hard to replicate it, because after that, it was gone for good.......Gotta say, cigarettes were a hell of a lot easier......maybe I should just take all my pipe tobacco and turn it into cigarettes..... :?
