I am the only pipe-smoker I know and I never meet any others. I am always conscious that my pipes mark me out but the Internet gives me access to a community that was not available until relatively recently. The members on this site provide me with great support, a huge bank of knowledge and invaluable fellowship. I am very grateful.

I am also a lone smoker, no pipe smoking friends in the flesh so to speak, just the guys and gals I read all the posts from. Pretty sure Jud is close to me though, maybe after a while we can meet up and have bowl or two.

I really like pipes and pipe tobacco. Some might say im obsessive about tobacco. And I like talking about pipe tobacco and pipe smoking. I don't know anyone who smokes a pipe. Not a soul. Out here in the rural South, I have only ever seen one person smoking a pipe. None of my friends smoke pipes. It's mostly dippers and chewers out here, and of course cigarette smokers.
So I'm very glad to have the Internet and sites like this so I can talk about pipe smoking. I don't envy y'all that live in cities. But I do envy that you have buddies to bullshit about pipes with. A pipe buddy is a rare thing.

I could proudly classify myself as obsessed when it comes to pipes and tobacco, but hey, Whatever floats the boat!

As for the comment on big cities, I live in one of the world’s most populous cities and I’ve only seen two pipe smokers, and had the opportunity to talk to just one of them briefly: we’ve now crossed paths twice and exchanged tobacco both times.

Thanks to the internet, I’m going to be getting together with a fellow pipe smoker I met in the forums, because “A pipe buddy is a rare thing.”

While I do see some pipe smokers from time to time most are outside my age range so it always takes some doing and proving my knowledge to gain the acceptance of older pipe smokers I meet. Not all younger pipe smokers are doing it to be ironic hipsters or just pretending to be in the lord of the rings! Thanks to the online community, namely this forum and podcast and to some extent youtube videos, I feel at home in the pipe community.

I'm neither an Old Timer nor a Young Buck, but I can relate to any Tobacco Pipe smoker, here or on the Street. We're in the "In the Know" Club!

Here in Az. it is a rare thing to see a pipe smoker unless I go to the B&M on Wednesday nights, I figure that it is probably a little different at the cities where the Codger snow birds roost during the winter though...(Sun City, Mesa mobile home parks, etc..)

I wanna grow up to be a Codger snowbird!
