I've hesitated throwing my hat in the ring in this thread, because the definition of musician is flexible. I don't have any pretensions about being in a band or even going to an open mic night, but I do pick up one of my guitars and/or the drumsticks every day. On the odd occasion that I have had an opportunity to jam, I've enjoyed it immensely but the fact is that I don't have any friends who play... just like having no friends that smoke pipes. :-( My wife is learning guitar and my daughter's in piano lessons. My son's only three, but he's showing a good ear, so my master plan of creating people to jam with is slowly bearing fruit... :)
I've got a white Fender MIM Stratocaster and a Yamaha AES620. My wife's got a Gibson Flying V. I also have a steel-string and a nylon-string accoustic. My latest acquisition is a Yamaha DTXplorer electonic drumset. I got it on a bit of a lark, but I've found I'm really enjoying it. I can play even when the kids are in bed. I've only had that a few months. I've been playing guitar since my late teens. Started during the breakup of a relationship to keep myself sane.

I really like the Precision Kevin, looks an absolute beauty.

This is the only one that I can claim to have purchased direct, picked it up at Gruhn's.

1970 Tele with later additions such as the "Danny Gatton Rails" by Joe Bardens and a TBX fitted to the tone control and also featuring a 4 way switch.

I thoroughly agree classicgeek, definition of Musician is a worrying one.LOL

I am a hack. I can get by in most situations, but I am a real Jack of All Trades and definitely a master of NONE!

Thanks Robs and Bytor. I love my Fender Precision Bass. I will never get rid of it.
It was a gift from my girlfriend at the time and cost $300 back in '83.
I like the Tele Robs. I'm definitely a Fender man. I wish I never got rid of that Musicmaster. It was the easiest guitar that I have ever played. I found some old tapes of me on lead with that guitar and I was flying.
I don't have the guitar or those chops any more. I used to practice every day when I was late teens early 20's. Now I only pick up the instruments every once in a while.

Oh I see, what all did they change?
Rockstar:

-Poplar shells

-Full shell contact lugs

-Tripple Flanged hoops with clip on Starcast mounts
Superstar:

-Birch shells

-Floating lugs

-Die-Cast/Starcast hoops made for Starcast mounts
The Rockstar is still a sweet set. What color is yours?

Been playing drums since I got my first Ventures album and my best friend Pete Bebo got his first Kent drum set back in 1965.
I think the most fun I had was traveling around the country with one of the best Pipes and Drums band in country out of Dallas.

(yours truly on the right side of the photo)
I've played guitar almost as long, arthritis has pretty much ruined that for me now, but I still pick around on the only two I have left anymore, a '78 Strat and a so-so Yamaha 12 string.
*edit*

I forgot this little jewel!! :laughat:

What a coincidence Hobie,....I actually started out on trumpet! School band 1963! :mrgreen:n

I can still hum the first piece we learned to play! The title had something to with water and Italy or something.

I used to play one of these in my glory days.

This is a 9 ft. Steinway & Sons Concert Grand. The one I played was 12 feet.

Kind of hard to carry around, requires a temperature and humidity controlled storage room, and tuning after 4 hours of play, not to mention they go for about $124,000 each these days... One man builds the entire piano and it takes about a year... (talk about craftsmanship) The "Lebaron Steinway" required a special permit before it was allowed to be imported into the country. (real ivory keys)

That's $12,400 a foot.

Ahhhh! The good old days.
