We have a local song and dance tradition here. It's a medieval thing, chain dance and long, rather monotonous ballads. The tradition is unbroken from the 12. Or 13. century and the oldest of the ballads are from that time. Some of them were among Tolkiens' influences when he wrote The Hobbit and LOTR. The form is a ring of people, dancing a very simple dance while singing. The lead singer always starts the verse and the others join in if they know the words. Everyone except the lead singer sings the chorus, allowing the leader to catch his breath. I take part in this and sometimes lead as well.

I play mandolin in two bluegrass bands. I also play fiddle and guitar. This is me at Swallow Hill Music a week ago, second from the left.

I've been a musician since 1964. Guitar and keyboards are my main instruments as well as several others. This is a picture from 3 years ago at a gig with our garage band. I'm in the middle playing the Fender Strat and ready to pounce the keys.

I am a violinists, but prefer to fiddle when I do. Been playing since I was 12, so more than half my life. I also dabble with the guitar, but only played in a high school band. Maybe one day I'll play in a band again....
@workman, that is pretty cool stuff. I didn't realize that songs like this are still popular, but reminds me of Blind Guardian or Tyr when they sing their ballads. I am guessing there is an influence there for sure.

These are all songs recorded when I was playing in the band Info Nympho. The first three songs are me; vocals, instruments, recording, etc. The last song is me playing guitar and singing with my friend Andy playing drums. We released our first album 'Eggs' in 1997. It can be found here...Eggs

We were a cassette only band, but somehow the first album ended up in digital format on the listed site. We were active from 1997-2002.

I also played in the bands Kardbored, Catholic Barney, and Thank the Knife. My current band is called Them There.
There is no video footage or photos of me playing live as far as I know? Info Nympho played 3 shows, Thank the Knife 2 shows, and I've played a handful of solo shows.

Tyr are also from the Faroe Islands. They use the ballads as inspiration and sometimes they just put some distortion on top of them.
So, Workman, the "å" sounds OH ?

Yes it does. The video I posted is in danish, as a part of our tradition is danish medieval ballads. My language, faroese, is a little different and has no "å". This ballad in particular is ca 800 years old and has been a hit here all that time

Here's a link. I sing the lead. It's about half the ballad.
That is awesome Workman! I watched the video and then I subscribed to the YouTube channel. I really enjoyed it...thanks for posting it.
