Find a Peterson that you like the shape and buy it. They have many pipes under $100 and I have several and they are all good smokers. When I started out I bought many basket pipes and they all are in a shoe box. My Petersons and Boswells (first Boswell I bought was 42.99) were/are good inexpensive pipes and I still smoke all of them. Not to sound goofy but a cheap pipe is a cheap pipe and there's a reason they are in a basket. Find a good pipe that is affordable and you will never regret it.

my first couple pipes were basket pipes and all smoked just as good as my Petersons. I liked how often they just were stamped with a country and nothing more. My first pipe was Italian and really a beautiful oxblood color with some great rustication.
