Moving is no fun. I worked for a moving company for years in my late teens and early twenties. Doing that made me realize that I never wanted to have lots of stuff. I’ve taken on a less is more mentality. This is paying off big time with my families upcoming move. This fall we are relocating from Atlanta, Georgia to Sofia, Bulgaria. We are only taking what will fit in our suitcases. This does mean that I’ll only be able to bring so much of my tobacco. When folks come to visit I’ll have them dip into my stash and throw a couple tins into their luggage.

It's a long hard haul physically, but maybe even more mentally. The one bright spot is that it can allow culling and simplifying your life if you will let it. Don't think in terms of how something might be used in the future, only if it has been used in the last year or two, and let most of the rest go. Use storage lockers as little as possible, since you are just renting postponement. Most of that stuff will never be used. Most of us would have an easier life if we let go of a third of the "stuff" we maintain. I don't follow my own advice enough.

Moved many times in my Navy career, the frequency helped to control the accumulation of stuff. Our latest move this spring was from a home we had lived in for the past 20 years. Many trips to the dump and Goodwill, still a lot of stuff to move. We are still going through some remaining boxes. I wish we had taken more care in labeling the contents, boxes labeled “misc” were not helpful in staging them in the new house. Some of those boxes contained an interesting collection of bath, bedroom and kitchen utensils—how the movers did I that I don’t know.

We have always sold most non-essential stuff before each move. Hire a temporary dumpster, and then we have fun buying mostly new furniture to fit each house. But, yeh, moving sucks, but I’d much rather buy new stuff and move it in bit by bit than renting a huge truck and movers.
I'd be up for that but it takes two to tango and SWMBO had strong attachments to some of our existing stuff. :)

We moved in October of last year and are still organizing and getting rid of stuff.

Since my wife was out of work due to covid she started packing/boxing stuff before we even started looking at houses which helped tremendously.

Finally settled into an apartment while the new house is getting finished. After throwing away ton of junks, we still ended up with a 10x18' and a 10x30' storages. It's a pain to move, but at least we have roof above our heads and place to sleep. Finding a spot for my pipe smoking is gonna be a little more problem. No front porch till the new house. No park bench near by. And, I haven't seen anyone smoking around the area.

Get an air balloon and tether it to your apartment.
